EHM 2007 resolution problem in Vista

Hi all. First i'd like to apologize if a thread about this has been made already, i used search function but couldn't find anything useful for me.

Second i'll state my computer info. I have a Dell laptop, Windows Vista, background resoltuion is 1280x800 (this is a deafult resolution). The hardware shouldn't be a problem since i'm 100% this is software/driver issue.

I have had EHM 2007 installed on my computer for the last 2 years and whenever i played it it was always full screen. Yesterday i had decided after some time to uptate my nVidia graphic driver which i haven't done for a while. The previous drivers were 197.16, and the new version of drivers is 266.58. Now i'm quite sure i have downloded the correct drivers for mobile version of my graphic card.

Now finally onwards to the issue i'm having. Today when i started EHM 2007 for the first time since installing new drivers my game entered but it wasn't quite full screen, because left and right side of screen were black spaces like ingame resolution wasn't the same as desktop resolution. I tried making a screenshot but it only showed the game but not the black parts that were on both sides. I searched google images for a picture that would show what i mean.

Image

Now the picture isn't mine i just "edited" it a little in pait to portray the situation, the top image is how my game looks right now and bottom like how it looked before. (NOTE nothing from the game is cut off by black space just everything is smaller a bit due to resoltuion).

Hopefully someone can understand what i mean  . Anyone ever had a similar issue? Anyone knows a way to fix it other than (i guess) rolling back the drivers (which seems kinda counter-productive to do for just 1 game). Couldn't really find anything on nVidia control panel to change resolution for specific program (in this case game) but maybe i didn't look hard enough.

I know exactly what you mean. Are you sure you want to change it back to the bottom format, though?

'Cause the top is actually more "correct". EHM is designed to only run in 1024x768, which is a standard square image. However, your 1280x800 is a widescreen resolution, which is a rectangle. And what's happening is that, with the bottom image, the square game window is being stretched horizontally to fill your widescreen resolution. With the top image, however, it's keeping the game in it's native 1024x768, and then filling the extra space on the sides with black.

So, the top image is actually the way the game is designed to look, while the bottom is stretched and distorted (and should appear a little blurry as a result). Normally, it's undesirable to have a distorted image, so I would assume that explains the change from the 195 drivers.

EHM doesn't support widescreen. If you get the full screen without the black spaces, its because its been stretched. I have the same problem with my PC but as long as it plays properly I don't mind. I don't think its a driver issue.

The thing is after playing few years like that I'm kind of used to stretched image, and i can't stand looking at the blank space on both sides :\ . As for the blurried picture i honestly prefer it that way since colors aren't as sharp and its easier to look at the screen. Is it possible to get it to wide-screen again without rolling back the drivers?

I don't know for sure, but I would assume it can't be changed. I'm guessing this is a compatibility improvement for the newer drivers, and you'll probably have to roll back to the 195 series.

Are you able to set your desktop resolution to 1024x768? Or does Windows / your driver only allow you to pick from widescreen resolutions?

If you are able to set your desktop to 1024x768, does it give you the black borders (which, as mentioned, ensures that the aspect ratio doesn't get skewed) or does it stretch it to the full width?

I can set desktop resolution to 1024x760, even as low as 800x600. Though i have rolled back drivers before you posted so i couldn't check if it would still give me black borders, but i'll keep it in mind as a possible solution for when i uptade drivers next time i need them.

I've got an answer for you on this one, and it turns out that I was way wrong - it is in fact an option.

To set it up the way you want, with the lower resolutions being stretched to fit your screen:

1. Go to the NVIDIA Control Panel. You can probably right-click on your desktop and find it in the context menu.
2. In the NVIDIA Control Panel, click Adjust desktop size and position from the links on the left.
3. Select the option Use NVIDIA scaling.

Note: I'm currently using the 270.61 drivers. The above procedure may look a little different on older drivers.

Edit: Maybe this option isn't the way to do it. It didn't seem to help me, until I went into my monitor's settings. Go into your monitor's menu (should be a button somewhere along at the bottom of the monitor), and have a look through its settings. My ACER V193w calls it "Wide Mode" with options "Full" and "Aspect".

Hey.

So, I've installed EHM now on my other computer, and all I get is "EHM has stopped working" when I click on the .exe. I've tried just about everything. I've installed everything through the administrator mode, and I've followed the instructions given earlier in the thread. Has anyone found a solution to this?

Are you using the CSD Patch?

Nope, well, at first I did, but I didn't the other times when I've tried to install the game.

Hey!

My patience is starting to runout so I ask here about some help.

2 years ago I installed the demo and then bought the full game and got a mail with my ID in it.
But my computer "died" and had to format the computer, and the other day I got the feeling I wanted to play EHM 07 again but...
I downloaded it here : http://download.cnet.com/NHL-Eastside-H ... 86872.html even tried some other links.
When I installed it and tried to start it I came to the menu and decided to write in the license code and after that I can´t start the game and not even come too that menu again.
What´s happening is that ; there's a box that simply says that the NHL EHM 07 has stopped working and that windows is searching for a solution but could not find it.

I have ofc tried to reinstall it several times. And it´s the same computer that I used to play this game on.

Thanks in advance! Sorry for the english , hope I've made myself fairly understood.

The User Account Control in Windows Vista / 7 is a frequent cause of difficulties. Try right clicking on the ehm2007.exe file and clicking on the 'Run as Admin' option. Alternatively, right click on the exe file -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Tick the 'Run as admin' box, click OK and then load the game. My instructions are based on Windows 7 but I think the steps are very similar in Vista.

You could also try disabling any antivirus software you have just to test if this makes a difference.

Another common cause are hardware drivers (your video card in particular). It may be worth updating your video drivers if possible.

P.s. welcome to The Blue Line!

I tried the stuff with admin and so on but didn´t work.

But thank you archibalduk it was my antivirus program that stopped the game. =D>

And thanks for the welcome!

Hi!

Bought new widescreen monitor, after that ehm stopped working. I got it to work once, when running as administrator. After that no go, it starts up and crashes just before main menu. Tried also all of the above solutions, still no go. Does anyone got some more tricks to go with?

If it was up to me, i'd just try to use the old monitor. Try to live with a women who's really into Interior design, it's not that easy ffs ](*,)

Does your monitor allow the minimum 1024x768 resolution?

Yep, range is from 800x600 to 1366x768 and it's now set to 1024x768.

It's strange that changing to a new monitor would make it stop working... :-k
