I really like your updates. I know how much work you must have put down in it, and think that it deserve some more credit than it got.
Lazion wrote: Are you gonna do anything about player histories and infos?
Now because that newest editor supports editing player infos too.
It would be nice to update that too, but i honestly dont have time for that ](*,)

Manimal...careful. Don't make promises Lidas, you and the gang may not be able to keep. I am betting the first db won't be out til October.

Yeah, I know. I was just feeling very good (and drunk) and optimistic. I actually have no clue how much is left to do in the update

There is a huge amount of research going on at the moment. This is being undertaken by several different users, covering numerous leagues. However, it is only Lidas who is physically editing the DB, making the changes the researchers suggest. Thus Lidas has one hell of a lot of work to do. I'm sure Lidas will announce a rough date for a beta version when he's ready.

When you edit the salary, (at least for NHL players) can you make it so it is the cap number of the contract is the "salary"? Because I've noticed that previous DB's only take into account the first year's base salary. For example rookies with bonuses and a variable salary only have the first year's salary against the cap.

For example, look at the contract info for Patrick Kane.

Kane, Patrick (mil/year)

Salary:
0.875 0.875 0.875
Bonuses:
2.850 2.850 2.850

Cap hit:

3.725 million/year

Would you guys make the "salary" 0.875 or 3.725 per year?

I'm going with Cap hits. Kane will have a 2Y 3.725M contract.

If there are any changes with any NHL team staff that I hear about, I will just post it in here so that you guys have the info.

Hope it looks good btw.

Jason - you might want to post these updates in the Research Forum in order to ensure Lidas spots them.

Thanks Darkfire. Archi has done the whole NCAA I Believe. All new guys, and old guys. But thank you very much for the offer. If archi/Lidas do need it, they will let you know. :-D

Yup I've updated the NCAA so that it's up-to-date as of the end of last season. This updates all of the current players in the DB and adds all of the ones that need to be created. As I imagine you have discovered, it's not really possible to create the new acquisitions until after the season starts.

Just picked this up off sportsnet.ca...
"Cliff Fletcher, General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday that the team has named Corey Hirsch as goaltending coach and Graeme Townshend as skating coach. Dennis Bonvie and Tom Watt have also been added as pro scouts under the direction of Mike Penny, the Leafs' Director of Pro Scouting.

Hirsch, 36, most recently was the goaltending consultant for Hockey Canada where he was a member of the coaching staff which won Gold Medals at the 2007 and 2008 World Junior Championships and the 2008 Under-18 World Championships. He also worked as a goaltending scout for the Canadian Men's National Team at the World Championships. During his playing career he appeared in 108 NHL games for the New York Rangers, Vancouver, Washington and Dallas, compiling a record of 34-45-14 with a goals against average of 3.12 and four shutouts.

Townshend, 42, spent the past four seasons with the San Jose Sharks as the team's skating coach under the guidance of Ron Wilson and his staff. Townshend played 45 career NHL games (1989-94) for Boston, the New York Islanders and Ottawa collecting three goals and seven assists. Both Hirsch and Townshend will work with players on both the Maple Leafs and Toronto Marlies, as well as with the organizations drafted prospects in North America.

Bonvie, 35, recently retired from playing professional hockey at the conclusion of 2007-08 season. He played in 92 career NHL games registering one goal and two assists, along with 311 penalty minutes. Bonvie is the AHL's all-time penalty minutes leader, accumulating 4493 penalty minutes in 871 games.

Watt was most recently a pro scout with the Florida Panthers. He has a vast amount of coaching and scouting experience, having won the Jack Adams Award as NHL coach of the year with Winnipeg in 1981-82 and winning a Stanley Cup with Calgary in 1988-89.

As we've said before, this is a really big project for one man (Lidas) to do. Even though we have a team of us doing the research, Lidas is the only one actually editing the DB. Maybe a beta might come out by the end of October but it won't have all of the leagues updated like the final version will.
