Yep, small leagues are the way to go for a true challenge. For the small leagues, players with lower attribute levels tend to excel in these leagues. In my ECHL games, my best forward has a lot of 10's in offensive skills. In lower leagues, you'll have players that have sometimes outrageous attribute numbers for 1 or 2 skills, I've had players with a 14 slapshot, 6 wristshot, 11 passing, and then all 7,8, or 9's in other categories. It's all a matter of blending the right players, at the right price, at the right time. There are just so many things to handle, it is a true test of your management skills to run a successful minor league team. Anybody can stack an NHL team with superstars. To scout through all the Canadian junior leagues, colleges, the AHL, IHL, ECHL, LNAH, SPHL, and to an extent some of the smaller European leagues to find that perfect 2nd line playmaking winger, 3rd pair defenseman who can check, hit and pass, or a capable backup goalie, that is the challenge. I will keep on playing the minor leagues until I don't think I can do anymore.

Create/add a new NHL team

Well guys, I searched through the forum but had no answer to my question ](*,)
I created a new NHL team without replacing an existing one. I just added a new team: named it, inserted all necessary data, colours, finances, arena with its capacity, year of foundation, league, division, etc.....Then started new game. Everything was fine except some points:

1. My team doesn't appear in the Standings window neither in Conference nor in Division and Overell standings. Although Eastern conference and Northeast division are shown in the Team Info window

2. Schedule for the upcoming seasn includes matches with only 24 teams, but there is no a match with TOR, PHO, ANA, LA, SJ, DAL. The quantity of matches is different as well. Thus for example my team has to play 8 games with OTT and only one with CGY.

Any idias how to solve the problem :-?

You can't add a team without removing another from it's place. It'll fudge up your schedule and quite possibly cause a crash later on in the game. I'm actually surprised you got any games for your team in the schedule, or that you can even play with that team.

Actually I didn't play any game. I even didn't created the roster. But indeed the schedule consists of 82 games. If the problem is in the schedule, so may be it is possible to edit it, BTW is there any editor? Also I would like to know wether only NHL can't be expanded whith teams or it regards all other leagues?

If your team has 82 games, it's more than likely that some other team in the league has no games in their schedule. There are only 30 different schedule templates in the NHL and if you have 31 teams, one of them will not play any games at all in the season. And you can't edit schedules, they are hard coded.

Yes, this applies to every league in the game.

Editor-game crash issues

I used the editor to edit the 1.2 TBL database to add CHL and UHL affiliates to a few teams (giving these teams 4 total affiliates). Is this an edit that should be causing the game to crash? Basically, it works fine up to June 6 after year one and then crashes on that date every year (I have tested this on 3 different games with different franchises). I have been able to get past the error message by running the game as administrator (I am using Vista), and it will then go past June 6.

I have read that people often have further issues in later years and don't want to invest the time to play through year 2 and possibly have to completely restart. Any idea if these types of edits should cause problems?

I haven't experienced crashes after editing the database myself, but I've heard editing affiliates is somewhat of a risky bisnes. Maybe four is too many? :-k

I don't know Vista at all, but I would guess it had something to do with the crash, if you can get past the certain date with different system settings. If it was the games fault (or editor), why would then be a problem in one login and not in other one?

Except that the crash never happens when using the default unedited database. I am guessing that something in the updated database, or something caused by one of the edits tries to write to a file that you need to have administrative access to write to causing the crash. I am half way through season 1 and am just debating if I am better off restoring to the unedited 1.2 database and starting a new game (I guess I can live without those extra affiliates) or if I should try to play through. What I don't want to do is play right through season 2 and have an unrecoverable error issue.

Well, it may have to do with something in vista itself. I know there were a load of games you had to play as an administrator when vista first came out. shouldn't be a big deal to just run the game that way. or is it? haven't touched vista yet.

Editting team names gives me an error when starting new game

I am moving and renaming teams for my mod. Now while I took the maple leafs sharks and renamed them with no issues, I get the below erro for Columus and atlanta, two teams I replaced with other teams.

Image

Note I only get this error when I go to 'load a new game'. I dotn get it when I oopen a saved game.. and I only get it so fr for 2 of the 10 teams I have moved around.

Personally.. I can love with this error.. but will it crash my mod somehow if this index is messed?

I used the exact same process to renamed all the teams.. so Im a bit miffed! the teams replacing Atlanta and Colubmus seem fine when I play test them.

I've gotten this error as well. For me, it came up after renaming the Mississauga IceDogs to Niagra IceDogs; Toronto St. Michaels Majors to Mississauga St. Michaels Majors; and the Irish Hockey League to Irish Ice Hockey League. I was able to continue with the game despite these errors...

However, one of my latest games with these changes did become corrupt, and I had to delete it.

So, from what I've seen, these errors don't lead directly to a crash/corruption, but they may down the road. :thdn:

I'm not 100% sure as I haven't renamed/moved teams around for a while, but I don't think this error will definitely lead to a crash. Still, when you edit the database this much it does make it much more likely to crash. Instead of renaming Columbus Blue Jackets to whatever you want, try making Columbus invalid and without a league (basically defunct) and then add your new team into the NHL, in the same division etc etc. Might mean that the index of CBJ is still there, but like I say it's been a while since I did any of this so I can't remember. I can tell you this sort of thing can be done without a crash though; I've managed to move all the British teams into the German leagues and vice versa with no problems, as well as some other stuff. Good luck. Remember to backup. ;)

I actually want to do something thats going to make alot of changes. But as it happens, alot of the changes will be the same made as the 1979-80 mod. So I might just take that mod and make the changes needed from there.

Im worried about changing so many teams, swapping which division they are in and renaming hundreds of players will just mean an eventualy crash.. oh well.. no better way then to try and see!

As an old modder of other games, i wouldnt dream of not giving credit where its due!!!

Im actually going to run with what I have started. Sub-Modding 79 is 'plan B' right now!! ;)

I've comsidered giving myself both a CHL and a UHL affiliate before, but then I think that if a player needs to be at that level, they're probably not worth hanging onto. Using loans, I can always find an ECHL (and sometime an AHL - depending on the player) team that will give my guys play time. And for the rare occasion that I do want to send someone to the UHL or CHL, I'll just loan them out.

I am considering starting my game with an extra ECHL affiliate however (one of the teams that doesn't have an NHL affiliation) because I often find I want to put more guys in the ECHL than the Wranglers have room for, and instead of loaning them out all over the league, I'd like to have them all together.

ECHL, CHL and UHL are generally prospects graveyard for NHL clubs. They can be a nice source for AHL depth players and veterans. One fine exemple is Ryan Gaucher with some time could be a very nice AHL mentor and even a NHL 7th d-man.

But British Elite league can grab wonderfull talent there :)

Has there been a firm solution to this? Everytime I start a game it says "Unable to find the MISSISSAUGA_ICEDOGS index" and "Unable to find the TORONTO_ST_MICHAELS_MAJORS index", then my game crashes within the first few days. I've tried what laskey said, but it didn't seem to work, unless I did something completely wrong.

I don't know, but I'm becoming very baffled by this error.

I just tried renaming the Allsvenskan to "HockeyAllsvenkan" and the Swedish Elitserien to just "Elitserien", and I get the error. Then I also get some *.cpp errors as well, which were related to these leagues.

I'm beginning to wonder how D88 managed to rename so much in his TBL DB with no trouble. :-k

Ive only been able to change the short team's names without a problem, I wanted to change all of the NHL teams, to remove the "TM" signs, but it wouldn't let me start a game. :dunno:

For whatever reason you can not change the name of the Dallas Stars. If you change it the game will crash when you create a new career. All other NHL team's names can be changed, but some of them (i. e. Columbus, Ottawa etc.) lead to that error mentioned above. And I think this will lead to crashes/corrupt savegames later on. I think so because I experienced this before and then decided to leave all those team's names and take other teams for my 79/80 mod. It works without problems and no such errors.

I know that there will be no new editor for the game but i am wondering why? Is all the other info hard coded so you can't change anymore?

There won't? If so, I agree with you there. There are still things to add: on the top of my hat I can think of the missing delete button, which is there, but you can't use it for some reason.

But this is Eastside UK's project, so who knows, we don't :dunno:
