It's great to see users helping each other out with interpreting the rules rather than having to wait for a Moderator to logon and answer the question. That's what this community is all about!

Quick question: After season three, Greg Zanon refused to resign with me. I qualified him, so i still retain his rights.
Now he's headed to arbitration. Can I agree to the arbitration award, or do i have to say "no" to avoid him counting as one of my UFA's?

Well, if you still retain his rights, I think he counts as a RFA.

Eterium is correct. If you've qualified him and retain his rights, he's not going to be a UFA, just an RFA. He won't count as one of your UFA signings.

I think there's some problem in the Challenge Stats recording sheet in the Season 4 Totals, games 21-40 and 41-60. It gave me a conference rank of 1 and -1 in stead of the right ones, rank 2 and 1. I guess it calculates it somehow from the previous set of games. I don't know if anyone else is as far as I am in the season 4 and so hasn't encountered this problem. My Excel skills aren't really that good so I don't know what I should change in the code. It's not such a big deal but I can see it might lead in to problems when counting the points for each manager.

I got the same when I recorded my place into the excelsheet in the conference in season 4.

Uggh! I'll have to take a look at it. I probably screwed something up on one of my formulas. Thanks for the heads up. If you need to post your stats, just correct it in your post for now. When I get the chance I'll go ahead and fix the spreadsheet.

Owing to the popularity of the current Nashville Predators Challenge, we have taken the decision to extend the Challenge deadline by a month. The deadline is now 26th July 2009.
When we launched the Challenge, we stated that we would run a poll to see whether everybody wanted to extend Challenge 13 or finish it and start planning for Challenge 14. We decided not to run the poll because our hand has been forced by our site host. Our hosts are yet to renew the expired licence on our backend server system and so we cannot access the database to input everybody's stats. We're hoping this will be done very soon so that we can input everybody's stats and see who is leading the Challenge. We will of course update you all on the situation as soon as we hear any further news.
In the meantime, if you were unsure whether to join the Challenge due to the impending deadline, now you have plenty of time to join in and play a couple of seasons. For those who have already started, it will allow you to continue your dynasty and swap notes with your fellow Challengers.

Okay, I think I've corrected the error and I'll have a new version posted momentarily. To avoid any problems I suggest everyone re-download the spreadsheet and then copy & paste their data from the recording tab into the new spreadsheet.

This all seems really complicated.. Is it just me?
Why are there all these rules? Why isn't it just the regular rules from the NHL

You might be surprised to learn that the current set of rules is very simple compared to some of the previous challenges.
The reason for them is simply to keep people from exploiting the AI and to make the game a bit more fun. It's not much of a challenge when everyone just fills up their roster with stars and elite prospects in the first season and win cup after cup.
It's also a great way to discover and improve in parts of the game that you have been neglecting (practice, tactics, prospect development, late round drafting, etc.). I'm still baffled that people manage to trade for players like Ovechkin under the current rules but I've never been much of a trade GM so I guess that's an area of the game that I need to improve in.

Put simply? We've got a lot of people here who have been playing this game for a long time and to just play with the regular NHL rules is too easy. There is no "challenge" that way and there ends up not being much difference between people's games. Everyone wins the Cup every year. We've done challenges this way before and it got boring. We've come up with this set of rules so we'll have to think about what we're doing and get more out of the team we're given and also develop our own talent.
And as Marsac said... the current set of rules is simple compared to what we've had in the past.

I use NHL EHM 2007... is that okay/allowed
Posted: Wed Jul 15, 2009 8:30 pm
by bruins72
EHM 2007 is the only one allowed. You've also got to use Lidas rosters version 1.2 for the challenge. I don't know if it's worth starting now though. The challenge ends in a week.

by tazerwood19
Well i know that. I was just going to play in the next one why do you guys only use EHM 2007? Are they that different??
Posted: Thu Jul 16, 2009 6:10 pm
by bruins72
There are lots of differences. There is EHM 2007, which is the latest version of the game. EHM 2005 is older and doesn't have all of the features (and I don't know if the league rules are set up the same way). They're really apples and oranges. Plus, EHM 2005 is working off of 2005 NHL rosters while we're using updated rosters from Lidas that are up to date as of the trade deadline in the 08-09 season. There is no way we could run a challenge with EHM 2005 and 2007.
Go ahead and start a game if you think you can get at least a season done before the deadline. Just make sure you read the rules and use the proper database.

This might be a stupid question but on the challenge recording thread how do you put the links at the bottom to say ex. Season 2 trades or whatever to go to your screenshot

If you go into "Reply" instead of "Quick Reply", you'll have a reply window with some tools above. One of them looks like a glove with some chain links. That one allows you to insert a URL. Click it and it will first ask you for the URL (that is the link to the picture, probably something from Photobucket or one of those file hosts), then the next one asks you for the text you want it to display, for example "Trades" (without the quotes). This will insert a nice, clean link into your post. Just make sure to do it at the bottom after you report your stats.
