Are we sure that any new names would appear in game? I had thought that the names for regens are based on a weighting system whereby the more common the name, the more likely they would appear as a regen's name. I'm not sure what happens if you add names which are not actually used by any staff in the database. It might be worth testing first (using something like the Blank DB perhaps).

They will work, I studied the phenomenon. And I know how to use them to our advantage

About those names..
We can export tons of names from Football Manager (Genie Scout) and import those in EHM using staff_new updater function and then delete all imported staffs by retiring them using contract_update.
I just created fictional hockey world with real football players around the world.. It's so weird to see so many different flags in game. :-D

The past couple of years I've only seen one other guy asking this and I can tell you it is not anything that we have planned on adding.
Do it yourself

Plus, this is the wrong thread. 5.0 is already out.

Commentary isn't included in the database. It is a file separate from the DB altogether.

Two posts and impolitely asking people who work VOLUNTARILY to do something for you? How about you try and do something for the game yourself. Here is a great idea....Fight commentary...since you want it so bad.

And like Manimal said.....one other person asked for something like this in the past, and guess what? it was someone who was a complete noobie too. Wow. You would think the guys get paid to do this and you know work for SI or something. I love how entitled society is today.

And you have been asking for quite awhile alot of you? wow...you joined this site the day you made the post. 15 minutes before. Get a grip. Love to have you here, but maybe just maybe have a look around and figure things out before demanding (even somewhat politely) something to be added to the game. Maybe you can do it yourself.

How to win friends and influence people...a book by me.

Really not the point animal. More the point of the quality of this young man's posts throughout the forums and that he comes in as a newbie and asks for a whole lot to be done for him instead of looking around and doing things himself. He is almost as annoying as you are. :-D I kid...both of you.

Manimal, love your roster updates....

If there's one beef, I'm not terribly interested in the minor league realignments. I'd love to take this opportunity on my own game to perhaps realign some leagues and maybe revive some old defunct franchises while putting some active ones to rest. Just some personal preferences. How do you effectively do this? It would seem the most excellent pre-game editor doesn't really save my changes. For example, I might take the Missouri River Otters, set the nation to United States, the Division to United Hockey League and the Other Division to United Hockey League Western Conference and click "Confirm", but returning to that team, the changes have not really been made. How might I do this?

edit....browsing the forum for any similar questions and may have found some possible answers, but for the time being, I leave my question open to any brilliant mind that may be of help.

edit edit....okay, I'm reading up on this hexediting stuff. Perhaps this is the right direction to look. I don't particularly want to alter league structures or anything, simply swap teams in and out....onward we read.....

Grand Edit Finale!!!!.....Okay, I think I've reach a conclusion on this one. Since "did you read the forum?" is a common thread, I might as well provide for any brave soul that might stumble on this post with similar hopes. I see that simple editing the names of teams seems to work. Of course, this requires some good diligent time with editing the details of a team and *inhale.....exhale* player swapping. But it seems to be the most straightforward and hopefully safest way to go about this. I just didn't want the LNAH in the CHL or the SPHL in the UHL, to be perfectly honest. And while I'm at it, I hate the AHL West. My dreams of reviving the old IHL may be realized. ;)

The Pre Game Editor should be able to do this for you. I just checked on my copy of the Editor and if I change the team's Divisions, click on Confirm and then view the team again, the changes are made. :-?

When you return to the team you've changed, is it when you reload your saved game or is it immediately after you click on Confirm? If it is the former, then this might solve your problem:
archibalduk wrote:Are you running the game and the Editor with the Run As Admin option? You should always do that.

You should also go to C:\Users\<YOUR USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Sports Interactive\EHM 2007\ and check whether there is a data sub-folder there. If there is, delete it (but don't delete any other folders in there because otherwise you'll lose your game preferences.
Difficulties can arise with Windows Vista / 7 / 8 if you do not use the "Run as Admin" option when loading the game and the Pre Game Editor. Basically, if you don't use Run as Admin, you end up with the modified DB being saved to the above Roaming folder. The best thing to do is to run everything with Run as Admin because then it guarantees that EHM will load the DB from the correct folder and the Pre Game Editor will edit the correct version of the DB. By deleting any data folder from the Roaming folder, you'll ensure that you don't end up with dual copies of your DBs (each of which may be different).

Here's how to enable Run as Admin:

1. Right-click on the exe file for the Pre Game Editor/EHM.

2. Click on Properties -> and then on the Compatibility tab.

3. Tick the "Run this program as an administrator" box. Then click on OK.

4. Repeat this for both the Pre Game Editor and EHM.

Ah, thanks for the reply....The Roaming folder doesn't appear to exist....I was not running as an administrator, but unfortunately, I get the same results after doing so.

To clarify your opening questions: I can clear the nation and current/other divisions of any team and with a confirm, it appears that data remains cleared. If I go to a new team, say I'm reviving a defunct franchise, and I input the nation and the same division as the team I just deactivated, I get the warning "In order to make a club extinct - Nation, Division, and Other Divisions must be cleared." Come to think of it, as I try that, I cannot get around that warning. Every time I click confirm, that's what I get. Clearing the data gets a nice, normal confirm. And it appears to stick. I could have sworn on previous attempts, if I had moved the very first team, the one I deactivated, into yet another division, it would give me the "Record Updated" confirmation but returning to that team, the fields would be clear. I can't seem to replicate that now. The only difference is that I'm running as an administrator now. Distinct possibility I imagined the "Record Updated" in previous attempts, but I can't confirm or deny that.

Ah I see! If it comes up with that error message, I don't think it shows the Record Updated. I've tested on my copy of the Editor (btw, I'm assuming you're using v1.7 of the Editor) and it seems to stick ok (I just input the minimum data - i.e. Nation, Division and Other Division). You could also try setting Club Status, but I don't think that should have any bearing over whether the changes stick.

An alternative way might be to create the new teams and set their names and nothing else - and then save the DB and exit the Editor. Try then reloading the Editor and DB to see if you can make the Nation/Division/Last Division changes to those newly created teams. I know I sometimes find the Editor can get a bit confused with newly created data - new leagues in particular. Maybe creating them and saving them first might help. Bit of a guess though, I'm afraid...

So I elected the arduous process of simply renaming teams, changing the stadium, and colors (nation would not change, saved). Because I wanted reasonably accurate rosters, I also took the time to move players for realigned teams. Naturally, inputting defunct teams made for a dilemma.

Incidentally, when running a test with a new game, I found that if I changed the minor league affiliations, it appears that the players assigned are shifted automatically with a new game, so it was not necessary to individually move each and every single player to their new team. For example, I feared that if "Player X" in the database was assigned by an NHL team to one AHL team but I switched the affiliation, that Player X would be "loaned to" the old team---in the game itself, he would be shaded blue on that old team---but in fact, the start-up simply reassigned him to whatever new affiliation I made, so Player X was on the new AHL team instead. Without me having to manually switch him in the database as "Playing For" the new AHL team. That seemed to be an interesting observation.

Going back to how to make the database better, I noticed Matt Irwin of the San Jose Sharks is rated 70 overall but makes $7.8 million a year. I'd argue both of those might need correctin' ;) . Irwin's looking pretty nice at the NHL level this year, so far, but I'm pretty sure he makes peanuts.
