Hi guys. I am new to EHM and to hockey generally , but i love it. I am a football fan(to americans i am soccer fan).
I've played all football manager games ,so this game interface is not new to me. Also i know the rules in hockey and some basics , but i am far away from knowing the game and players :)

My favorite team is Anaheim Ducks and i started a new game with them . Being not so "in the know" with this game , i read a lot i found that The Slapshot tactic is really good for the new players to the game , so i downloaded it and play with it on my save. The thing is while i am learning the game , i do conside too much goals (average 3 per game). And i do get a mixed result like i win 3 in a row ,than lose 5 in a row and again...

I want to ask for some help , to understand the game and hockey in general.
So my question are :
1 Does this Slapshot tactic works for you all ?
2 In which line do i put my best players (1st , 2nd ,3rd or 4th) ? For now they are in my 1st but i am not too happy with that ...
3 Someone to explain to me how do u do transfer in hockey . because its so much different than in football and i got lost :)

Thanks in advance :)

Edit: I am on a 6 games losing streak... I don't know why but this tactic starts to fail very much :(
1. I've not tried it. I use my own tactics, which I build up on as the season progresses. And constant change is a must. The whole season with the same tactic does not work for me. You need minor changes every now and then to keep the opponent on their toes. Sometimes a major change is in order.
2. Generally the 1st line is for the best players. But a real coach would not just dump them all there because they are the best, he would also consider who are best suited to play together.
3. In the NHL you mainly trade players or pick them out of waivers or free agency. In Europe the transfer rules resemble those in European football, where you buy and sell players.

Mixed results are common in hockey. I'd say hockey is more "even" than football, where it is often easy to guess who will win. In hockey a good team may lose their form quickly, and a bad team may suddenly climb to the top. As long as you're above the playoff line I wouldn't worry about it too much in the beginning. Give yourself time and familiarize yourself with the world of hockey.

A six game losing streak would be a sign that something needs to change. :-)

Hello! :-)
I'm also relatively new to the game compared to a lot of people here and I haven't heard about the "slapshot tactic" but I do have some tips. I think the first thing you should look at if you get a lot of goals against you is your goalie, I feel like having a good goalie is extremely important and definitely worth trading/paying high salaries for. You should definitely put your best players in your 1st line but if they are having problems then try changing the "line matching" under team tactics and check the box for "unit tactics" so you can make small changes in your tactic until you find something that works. Personally I'm currently using the 1v4, 2v3, 3v1, 4v2 line matching setup with my 1st line being filled with 3 star players and set to a very offensive mentality and in my 3rd line I have my defensive forwards with high checking and hitting stats using a defensive and aggressive mentality. This way my stars can abuse their less skilled players to score goals and I use my defensive specialists to try and disrupt the opponents star line.

Yes, a good goalie is paramount. The most important player in the team.

Thanks for the help guys. But will you consider telling me a good goalie who can i buy/trade in my Anaheim side ,because i am not too familiar with the best players in hockey(as i am in football) ?
As i said i am familiar with the rules in hockey , but thats that . I don't know good players ,i don'k know good tactics ,but i am in love with the game. Used to play NHL 09 , but thats too easy and its nothing like a manager game :)
All hockey games i do watch are Anaheim Ducks matches ,so i know that Corey Perry is good player and Getzlaf too.
What should i look for(like stats) for a high scoring forwards and for defensive forwards ?

And trading .... So i put my player for theirs , ok. But how can i get someone good ? I thought that i can offer my player +money for theirs ,but its not possible . And the young players i scouted via my scouts are too young to be signed and i need them to be drafted :)

Also in general i want to build a team witch is very very quick and very tough team who destroys other team physically :)

EDIT: How do i put screenshots in here ?:)

I think for trading you just need to try things out and see who you can get. Read up on the threads here. (Although the older posts in the beginning of the threads are usually dated, because the game has changed a lot since Early Access). It is quite likely you just can't trade for the players you want, in which case you need to wait for free agency, draft, find someone else, or do without.

For defensive players the first thing I look at is Checking, Pokecheck and Positioning. Then I look at Anticipation and Bravery. Mentals in general are important, but I never sign a defender who has a serious lacking in one or more of these attributes. They may do good, but it just bothers me to look at them.

For offensive players I value Deking, Off The Puck (Getting Open), Passing, Stickhandling and the shooting attributes. On the mental side mainly Creativity, but again all mentals are good, except Aggression which is not really the greener the better-type attribute, it's more about the player's style of play. Both can be good or bad. Skating abilities are also a must for a forward in my team!

One could add to that Determination, Work rate, Faceoff for a center, and so on, but that was just a quick list of what I look at first, before anything else. That doesn't mean only those matter, or those are all absolutely needed to be successful at a position, it's just how my eye is trained when browsing thru players as I look for who to sign.

Ok. I get that :)
Two question tho....

1. Is there a thread about tactics (like for Football Manager) ? What i mean is people sharing their tactcs ,so can others try them and leave feedback ...

2. How can i put screenshots in here ? Just to show you my progression thru the season.
I switched to RED PlaymOver Barrage tactic(also from EHM 2007) wich seems to work for now . I am 2nd in my conference :)

Generaly i want to see other people tactics and how did they worked for them ,so i can create my own tactic ,based on their experience and knoledge of the game :)

1. There's the threads in the Game Knowledge Forum, but I don't think there's a "share your tactic" -kind of thread at the moment.

2. The game takes a screenshot if you press Prt Screen. Then just open Paint and paste. Then you should probably upload it somewhere, so that you can provide a link online. I personally use Google Drive, as I have a gmail email account and gmail users automatically get a Google Drive account as well.

If you are playing in windowed mode press Alt + Print Screen and that will be bring a screenshot of just the game not the surrounding area.

Thanks for the response . I know how to take the screenshot , didn't know how to put it in here :) I am use to other forums , where you can upload screenshot directly in the post you leave :)

Also , who are the best players in hockey ? As far as my little experience goes - i know that Perry and Getzalf are good. But in real hockey , who are the best players ? :)

Just lead the Coyotes to the Cup in 2018. Beat the Pens in the final after being 1-3 down.

Image

Was predicted to finish second from bottom. Anyone won the cup after being predicted to finish last?

Just a quick tip, and maybe you already know this, but I wouldn't focus on trying to bring all of the superstar players like Ovechkin and Patrick Kane onto your team right now. Focus on getting younger guys with 1st line potential so that your team will be good for years to come. Trading for a bunch of superstars will just get you into salary cap trouble, and that is not an ideal situation. :)

Hello all long time EHM player since the first game was released and enjoying the new one a lot.
So i wanted to have a challenge and started a season with the Colorado Avalanche they seem to have a good young core up front with Duchene,Landeskog,Mackinnon,Gregorienko,Raantanen but my Defense is lacking. Just wondering for suggestions on who to accquire for now and future. I will be trying to get a top 5 pick in the draft to get a high quality Dman. But dont want to throw the season. So i seen that Jared Tinordi can be grab at a low enough price. Is he worth getting? Dont want to make to many changes wanted to build from the ground up from my Prospects. Are they any good Dman that i could get that can be a solid starter for a couple years? My team is currently 9th in the West the only changes made where coachs and i signed Mike Richards. We are 12-14-5 Varlamov has his work cut out for him with 40-60 shots a game. Gonna burn out the poor guy. I tinkered with tactics but still cant find a way for my d to play better

I discovered a defenseman named Nick Bailen who has played well for me. He is on the small side at 5'9" and his attributes don't look all that impressive, but he so far has put up 2g 16A in 50 games as my 3rd pairing RD. He is a +9 with an AVR of 7.18. I found him playing for Dinamo Minsk and he was putting up good numbers there with a high AVR so I took a chance and it has paid off nicely.

Hello, I'm during second season with Columbus Blue Jackets and I've got Tinordi before trade deadline year ago. I remember that I took him and Jacob de la Rose from Montreal's affiliation team for relatively low price. He's very decent, but I don't think he'll into something more than solid 3-liner. Maybe your Colorado would need. I'm not sure if Yannick Weber from Canucks is still good. I remember that on previous databases he was cheap and very solid.

I can recommend you to watch Dante Fabbro during draft after first year - he looks very promising :)

Started a game with the Avalanche.

I currently don't have a roster to show since I'm only on september 1st and training camp is approaching fast enough. Despite not liking Roy's stats I'm gonna deal with it and not fire 3/4 of the coaches and scouts like I used to do in '07. :D I cleared only two really bad coaches and 3 awful scouts. The rest will stay for the whole season and I'll evaluate them at the end of the season.

I'll keep the team intact too except if good trades opportunities appear. I like the core of the team as it is right now and gonna see what that group can do first. I only tried to buyout Bordeleau and he refused so he's on the block. (even if I know nobody will likely want him)

Season's beging today!

Training camp went as I expected (2-3 record) and nobody really stepped out to move a vet out of the way. Young guys like Rantanen, Rendulic and Zadorov did pretty well in the camp but I prefer to give them a year in the AHL for development. Grigorenko, Bigras, Siemens, Gormley and Everberg suffered the same faith. Also buyout Bordeleau.

The Devils are expected to win the Cup this year.....wait? Yeah for real. :-? My team stands at the 22th place which is what I expected.

My roster looks like this:

Landeskog-Duchene-Iginla
Tanguay-MacKinnon-Comeau
McLeod-Soderberg-Skille
Rendulic-Mitchell-Cliché

Beauchemin-Barrie
Holden-Johnson
Stuart-Guenin

Varlamov
Berra

Currently in year 2 with Toronto. We're 20-8-6 at the moment and in 4th place in the east and the league.
I picked up Milan Lucic in free agency to help with scoring and I traded for Dennis Wideman to bolster the defence at the year 1 trade deadline. Now Wideman is struggling and Im currently looking for a top 4 defenceman at this coming deadline.

Mark Acrobello (34 GP - 11 G - 13 A - 24 P) and P.A. Parenteau (34 GP - 6 G - 20 A - 26 P) have been suprises this season and I am trying to see if anyone will take Nazem Kadri (32 GP - 5 G - 12 A - 17 P) because Tyler Bozak is coming back from a three month injury and William Nylander (34 GP - 8 G - 25 A - 32 P) has turned into an absolute beast with JVR (34 GP - 22 G - 12 A - 34 P).

Any suggestions on a top 4 defenceman? The Red Wings are struggling and I've been looking into Mike Green (two years left on his deal at $6 mil.)
