1. I can acquire a first round pick (for a Tier A player) but I can't trade my first round pick away, right?
2. Can I trade my second round pick away? For example for a Tier B player? I suppose I do but wanted to be sure.
3. I understand (hopefully) the kinds of trades I can do but I'm missing a rule on how many trades I can do. I suppose this is limited somehow.
4. I suppose I can never claim any Tier A/B players, right?
5. The "original rule" pyramid isn't used here, right?
6. Can I sign an UFA before the first September 30? (i.e. before any regulation games are played) I suppose this is the Year1 so I can sign one Tier C player (referring to the spreadsheet). Is that correct?
7. If I don't sign any players in one year, I suppose I can't sign twice as many players the next year, right?
Thanks!
I'm going to number your questions and respond by the numbers so I hopefully answer them all.
1. Keep in mind that there are no trades allowed in the first season at all. The intent of the rule involving the first round pick is that you can't use your pick plus something else to move up in the draft. This is so that people can't trade up for the 1st overall or something like that. In season 2 on you can trade your 1st round pick for an A player. That allowed trade chart has one side for Team 1 and the other side for Team 2. You could be the team on either side of that. You could trade your 1st round pick straight up for an A player. Or you could trade an A player for another team's 1st round pick.
2. Yes. You can trade your 2nd round pick for a B player. You would not be allowed to trade that 2nd round pick for a C player though.
3. I keep meaning to modify the rules to limit the number of trades but I kept forgetting to do it before this challenge started. I plan on implementing a limit for the next challenge. For the most part, maintaining your core roster will limit your trading in the early seasons.
4. No. The only players you're allowed to claim from waivers are C players. It just doesn't seem fair to be able to make a major acquisition by having it fall into your lap like a player going on waivers.
5. Nope! We're strictly using the Alternate Core Roster rules. We kept the others there because we wanted to preserve those rules just in case we needed to go back to them. The Alternate rules were just implemented not all that long ago.
6. Yes, you can sign a UFA that is a C player for season 1. I put this in there so that you can fill any 4th line holes you might have in your roster without forcing a young player into your lineup early instead of saving him for a homegrown in season 2.
7. No. It's a use it or lose it type of deal. Allowed UFA signings do not carry over from year to year if unused.
I hope that covers what you wanted to know. Let me know if there's any other questions. I know these challenge rules can be a bit daunting to folks that haven't participated before.

Thanks a lot! Just a couple of clarifying questions:
1. In theory, can I trade my 1st rounder away for an A player and trade another A player for another 1st rounder? I guess I can.
3. So for #36 challenge there is no hard limit in trades? I just need to keep the core/homegrown limits and stick to the types of trades listed in the spreadsheet, right?
The rest is as I expected and it's clear. Now I'm only afraid that I forget some rule and screw something up. But I guess I'll get into it.

1. Yes, you can.
2. The only limit is the rule of 'No trades during Season 1' - so you can not make first trade before July 1st of Season 2.
I have another question regarding signings of UFA. Is there any minimal age restriction for agent to be eligible for signing? How about players, who are e.g. 21 years old, not eligible for NHL draft anymore, never drafted before and now playing College hockey league? Is it necessary to wait until they are 24 years old in such case?

That was another change I forgot to make to the rules before the challenge kicked off. The intent was for the minimum age be 24 like in the old challenge rules. For Challenge 36 there isn't a minimum age. We'll get it squared away before the next challenge.

What number do I report as "Payroll"? Averaged Club Salary or Total Player Salaries? Or something else?

As for the rule 5.5.6 - Is it allowed to trade a player in less than 12 months after he was re-signed (i.e. his contract extended)?
Also, what are the rules for trading players' rights?

You dont have rolling saves so you can go back and check? (4 saves of the same career)
If you don't then i guess you just report ur numbers at 44 (apart from W/L/OTL which has to equal to 40). The only thing that matters in the end is ur complete stats after 82 anyway i think so should be fine. I'm just guessing though, wait for Bruins for a real answer but shouldn't be a big deal

I do but the next most recent save is a month old (in-game) so it won't really help (34 GP there). I guess I can count the wins/losse/OTLs by subtracting the last games' results but I don't want to go through box scores to adjust players' stats as well. However if it will be the only way I will probably need to...

I think its fine if you just add the stats as they are after 44 games and change what you have to to make it work... it will work itself out come Q3 anyway...

So yeah, I did it. I subtracted the last four games from W/L/OTL and GF/GA. The rest I left as it is after 44 GP.

Can I fire the head coach? Unless I'm mistaken there is only rule regarding assistant coaches...

Here's the rule for the head coach:
6.4 If you wish to sign another Head Coach, you must sign somebody who has been contracted to your team for at least the past six months.
Wo you can fire your head coach, but you can't sign a new one unless he have worked for your club for six months or longer.

That's pretty much the best you can do if you forget to post stats at the right times. I've done it too. I think we've all been there before.

It would be great to have some in-game reminder

Sure but I think it's unlikely to make it into the game. Not everyone plays the challenges.

One question, if a player doesn't want to extend with me but then after July 1 he wants to sign with me, does he count as a UFA signing or a resigning?

Is the player in question a UFA or an RFA July 1st? If they become a UFA on July 1st, they count as a UFA signing. If they're an RFA who you tendered a qualifying offer, you can sign them freely.

As a follow-up to this question - what if you have a contract offer on the table, then July 1st comes around, the player becomes a UFA and then a day or so later accepts the offer that you presented before the 1st?

Has that happened or is that just a hypothetical question? If it looks like it's going to happen, I suppose a screen shot of the offer being submitted not long before the end of June. Realistically though, if you've got a player who is going to accept an offer, it's usually going to happen before that if you remember to make the offer.
