Chiarelli traded Eberle for Ryan Strome as a 1-for-1 deal, that's awful, Oilers got fleeced.

Yeah but, that BOS defense is... bad and slow. It's hard to put much into his play with that group in front of him. Subban is also 2 years younger. Pickard is already 25.

I'm sure they plan on knocking every pick out of the park, but... I just don't know how realistic that is. I mean, ask Edmonton.

That's what people said about the Hall trade too (and I thought on the day of the trade and ever since that the Oilers won the deal)

Edmonton is better off without out Eberle and his $6 million salary, they don't need his "skill" and they'll be better off without his ultrasoft play when it matters (his extremely poor playoff performance did not help his value! and it solidified the idea that getting rid of him and his salary was very necessary) - I think the Oilers are pursuing the Cup, and Eberle's 0 goals and 2 points in 13 playoff games was the final nail in Eberele's coffin here in Edmonton

I think the only goal was to get rid of Eberle and his big salary, and that goal was accomplished

Trades are extremely difficult to make, and often players value at playing hockey is not the primary consideration anymore (it's the Salary Cap and how it affects a team's ability to manage the Cap/sign their players); IMO the ability to sign McDavid and Draisaitl is far more important than Eberle and Strome combined

Eberle salary is a problem. At 4.5 or 5 millions it would make more sense but they had to get rid of him.

Many in Edmonton and area have been calling for Eberle to be traded for years (he's seen as an extremely "soft" player who does not have a complete game)

He was extremely talented back in his junior years but after his first NHL he never seemed to have improved. It went downhill more than anything.

Hawks fans left puzzled after two trades that just happened :
Jackets acquire:
Artemi Panarin
Tyler Motte
2017 6th Rnd Pick

Hawks acquire:
Brandon Saad
Anton Forsberg
2018 5th Rnd Pick
Coyotes acquire :
Nicklas Hjalmarsson

Hawks acquire :
Connor Murphy
Laurent Dauphin

I'm feeling good about Saad's return to Chicago, I think he'll do well with Toews and Panik in the 1st. And DeBrincat or Schmaltz will fill up Panarin's role with Kane and Anisimov at the 2nd line.
I don't really know what to think about the Arizona trade tho, but it seems Bowman wants younger and "cheaper" defensemen.

I think Panarin will fit in well in Columbus.

Coyotes get Stepan and Raanta for DeAngelo and the 7th overall pick.

This article notes "Among forwards to play at least 1000 5-on-5 minutes last season, Panarin had the highest percentage of offensive zone starts (80.5%), significantly higher than the second-highest rate (Vladimir Tarasenko, 67.1%). " http://www.tsn.ca/statistically-speakin ... r-1.787446

Wow that's a very "protected" player.....I wonder if he'll get the same treatment in Columbus?

I think they're preparing for life without Hossa and doing what they have to do.

In what trading Panarin prepares them for the after Hossa? I would take Panarin over Saad anyday. Maybe because Panarin will ask for alot of money in the futur? Saad is at 6 millions IIRC? That's already too high for him.

People sometimes forget what a two-way player Hossa is/was. Saad is by far a better player at both ends. Panarin is... just not. Saad is just more complete.

I'm also just guessing some players on the team now had played with Saad before, and would maybe like him back. If I remember it wasn't popular when he left.

It makes some sense for CHI. I kinda' think CBS is getting the bad end of the deal here, to be honest. Panarin is one-dimensional and now playing on a Patrick Kane-less team.

If you have any loved ones that are Red Wings fans, please check in with them. Make sure they're ok.

I think the Red Wings made the wrong choice drafting Rasmussen, had much better options available there. (Maybe Primis is talking about something else? :-D )

There has been a lot of complaining amongst the Wings' fanbase lately, but last night brought out pure anger and hostility I have not yet seen. Some of it from people that have not even been complaining yet. It's an incredibly ugly scene and only going to get worse.

It was a turning point basically, for most.

I guess when your team makes the playoffs for 23 straight years it makes the fan more short temper when the team is going down! :D

I wouldn't say short-tempered. Stuff has been simmering for a few years now, before Babcock left even. Trust me, this isn't out of nowhere.

Most fans were hoping for a sign from DET though that there was a plan. With drafting Rasmussen, pretty much everyone now agrees there's no plan. It says something that Wings fans could not agree on who they should take at #9 going into the draft, but that when the pick came in everyone agreed it was awful.

It's pretty safe now to say though that everything DET has ever done was due to someone else in the Detroit Think Tank, not Ken Holland. As everyone from that group moved out of DET on elsewhere, it's become clear Holland can't do it on his own.

Vegas did pretty well with their first 3 picks it looks like. But we'll have to see what kind of quality this draft ends up being. I still get the feeling this might be a draft where half of the 1st rounders are swings and misses. So for Vegas, it's even more important that they "hit" with their picks. It'd be devastating if they made these moves for 1sts, and then didn't turn them into NHLers.

I don't recall a draft in recent memory that was more ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ though...
