TBL Rosters 2012-2013; Mistakes, omissions, tweaks etc

Please post any changes/mistakes/etc regarding the Manimal v5.x series of rosters in this thread.

As mentioned previously, v5.0 was Manimal's final involvement as Head Researcher for the roster update (he stepped down last month). Alessandro is now the Head Researcher, but I will also help him to maintain the roster update. I expect I will maintain/organise the UK and North America and Alessandro will concentrate on Europe/Russia.

Here is my task list for v5.1 (I don't know what Alessandro's task list at the moment - I need to ask him):

North America
* Look into re-rating the entire NHL (and perhaps the AHL)
* Apply some ratings updates to the WHL
* Check the OHL, QMJHL and WHL rosters (i.e. implement transactions, create missing players, etc)

Great Britain
* Update affiliations for teams in the NIHL-1, NIHL-2 and SNL
* Update SNL and Scottish Junior rosters
* Update head coaches and GMs (both contracts and re-rating)
* Update team colours (the junior teams are currently wrong/temporary)
* Further tweaks to the some of the British players

Player Career History
* Fix and import the remaining 1,500 entries which were researched as part of last summer's history update project
* Research and import player career histories for the British EIHL and EPIHL
* Check for any pre-2011/12 histories that refer to the Winnipeg Jets rather than Atlanta Thrashers

I accidentally missed this from the v5.0 update. I will need to make this change for v5.1:
smokey wrote:Moose Jaw Warriors have two Miles Warkentines as unsigned prospects. It's the same player, playing AAA midget hockey in Prince Albert Mintos.
Edit: It seems this was fixed in v5.0 after all.

For everyone's interest, the cut-off date for North American minor pro transactions in 5.0 was Oct. 6

One thing I noticed when I went through Tampa is that Jaroslav Janus wasn't in the unsigned prospects. His rights are still being held by the Lightning as he left the team as a RFA.

Also, couple players are missing some of their history/all of their history. For example Teddy Purcell is missing his 2011-12 stats and J.T Brown doesn't have a history at all but I guess those are part of the 1,500 entries you still have to import to the database. Just wanted to give you a heads up! :)

Btw, the rosters look great as always! Can't wait to get started on a new game!

I went through and changed the draft info for all RFAs. I guess I missed him as he had signed in Europe.
Draft year needs to be one of the two latest drafts for rights to be kept

I spend a lot of time in the NA pro minors (AHL and ECHL especially), probably one of the very few EHMers who do so, and know a lot of the people who do updates aren't even in North America. So here's what I see...

ECHL
------
* Kalamazoo Wings still show two defunct IHL teams as their rivals, with Fort Wayne in the ECHL now they are their #1 rival. Alaska Aces have the defunct Victoria Salmon Kings as a rival. Bakersfield and Stockton need each other as rivals, what with Bako trying to run a game promotion earlier this season touting Stockton as a bankrupt city and all. Colorado has a defunct team and a CHL team as their two listed rivals. Evansville needs Fort Wayne as their rival. Fort Wayne's primary rival is probably going to be Toledo, Kalamazoo second. Toledo needs Fort Wayne as a rival and probably Trenton removed. I know it's a lot, but many of these are midwestern rivalries that have existed for decades previously but are only being reintroduced with teams coming back into the same league together finally. Fort Wayne-Toledo in particular has a violent, nasty history both on and off the ice.

* Evansville Icemen do not play in Swonder Arena any more. They play in the new 10,000-seat Ford Center downtown. Ford Center appears to be in the DB already.

* Kalamazoo is no longer an Albany affiliate (despite the lack of updated graphic on their site), or New Jersey. They are only with Vancouver and the Chicago Wolves (VAN is in-game, Chicago Wolves are not and need to be added). Albany and NJ need to be removed, Albany currently has no AA affiliate at all. I believe all other affiliations are up-to-date though, having gone through them all once.

CCHA
------
* Still neither of the Chelios boys on Michigan State? Is nobody updating the NCAA anymore? I could maybe flesh out the rest of the CCHA if it's needed?

* Most all the NCAA initials need to be fixed it looks like, probably 90% of the teams or more.

Thanks for the great update though. Awesome as always.

I haven't had the time to update ECHL team info for quite some time. It has been on a to do list but other things have gotten prioritized. I believe AHL team info needs some looking over as well

AdamOates has done some things regarding the NCAA but I do not know what exactly.
What do you mean by NCAA initials?

Stastny26 - Thanks for the Russian info. I will pass this on to Alessandro. I think a couple of those transactions are lock-out transactions (e.g. Josh Hennessy) and so we wouldn't implement them in the Manimal DB (because we are keeping the locked-out players with their NHL teams.
Manimal wrote:What do you mean by NCAA initials?
I'm guessing he means the three letter team abbreviations.

Primis - If you're happy to list what teams need new abbreviations (if this is what you mean) then I will make the changes for you.
Primis wrote:I spend a lot of time in the NA pro minors (AHL and ECHL especially), probably one of the very few EHMers who do so, and know a lot of the people who do updates aren't even in North America. So here's what I see...
Thanks, that is really helpful. As you say, we're totally lacking any North American researchers and so updating team rivalries, etc will pass us by (moreso as so few of us are working on the Update at present). Any and all information you can provide is very welcome indeed. :)

Within the next few weeks I will post some simple guides on how to help us update the rosters. It really is as simple as listing the players (and their dates of birth) and new teams in a spreadsheet and sending it to me (and then I can use the EHM Updater to import the spreadsheets). So hopefully I can encourage a couple of users to help get the rosters of the playable NA rosters up to date. On the plus side, the Updater makes it so easy to update rosters that I can do it all myself if needs be (but it will take me much longer of course - and I cannot get started on this until late December / early January once I've finished my FHM roster work).

Again a very minor thing but Lightning's arena is still named St. Pete Times Forum in the game. It was changed to Tampa Bay Times Forum at the start of this year.

Alessandro has changed all of the Russian spellings in game. So you will see things like Alexander Syomin rather than Alexander Semin and Evgeny Malkin rather than Evgeni Malkin...

Just a minor change, P.K. Subban of the Montreal Canadiens is only asking me a contract of 925k for the next 2 years when I sign him at the beginning of the season as a decent young player (he's RFA) when he'll easily get 3-4m+ in real life as he's actually a core-key member of the team

To be honest the rest of the ECHL team info stuff looks good, or close enough. You're talking about markets and teams that have wildly varying degrees of success at the gate and such from year to year so you can't gripe too much about a Fanbase setting or a team's Training or Market Size. That's why I looked at the Rivals, Affiliations, and other things like that. Those do make a difference playing (particularly the affiliations, since they rely on the parent teams for players). As someone who plays more in the AHL and ECHL than in the NHL anymore, I can tell you they're close enough. I usually tweak a few things here or there anyways depending on the game, but... guys get sent down that should be sent down, and they perform about how you'd expect them to.

I'm guessing Kalamazoo got overlooked a few years ago when they jumped from the IHL 2.0 to the ECHL, and nobody really bothered checking back much with then after. Most of the other teams seem fine, save for updating the traditional midwestern rivalries I mentioned and Evansville's new arena (again they keep jumping leagues, and the rest was probably overlooked).

And the ECHL rosters are usually close enough as well in terms of player attributes. The AHL also seems good. I can't speak for the CHL since I never really bother with it (it's mostly a western league, and I live in the east). And I know very little about the SPHL (the UHL in-game).
Manimal wrote:AdamOates has done some things regarding the NCAA but I do not know what exactly.
What do you mean by NCAA initials?
I guess thinking about it, it probably doesn't matter. I'm talking about the 3- or 4-letter initials that represent the team. I thought they showed up when looking at league-wide player stats, but now looking at the game it seems they don't. I'm not entirely sure when they do show up in the game though, I can't find where they possibly do... they do show up with initials on lists for the playable leagues, but it would appear they are not used for the non-playable leagues, and full team names are listed instead. Weird difference.

Anyhow right now, Michigan is initialed "MCN" or something, when the school itself is actually referred to "the U of M", or "UM". Ohio State is "OSU" for "Ohio State University", Michigan State is "MSU", Penn State is "PSU", etc... the "U" is critical to the name and initials in most cases of universities here in the US. You get a rare school that doesn't use the "U" in their initials like Notre Dame ("ND"), but otherwise, it's there and important to people distinguishing the schools. Someone looking in a list knows "MSU" means Michigan State, but not what "MCS" is. This causes problems in football and basketball, where "MSU" could mean Michigan State, Murray State, Mississippi State, etc... but in hockey most of those schools don't have programs, so "MSU hockey" is a brand.

Unless I'm missing something though, it's not even used since it's a non-playable league. So never mind... there are so many things in the DB that appear to not actually do anything. Team Owns Arena, Team Home Days, Secondary/Nearby Arena, etc...

As for the rosters, I'm guessing only the NHL-type prospects have been really looked at and added for a lot of the schools, thus why a lot of schools have half-empty rosters. Most schools honestly should probably have at least 3-4 more players in-game, as many of those guys still go on and play in AHL, ECHL, CHL, or SPHL later anyways and would need to be added to the DB anyways, as well as some play overseas. For instance, I'd imagine Jake and Dean Chelios probably won't ever be real NHL prospects, but they'll play minor pro hockey still somewhere for a number of years if they choose to.

It's tough though when you get towards the end of the collegiate hockey season, and the 3 or 4 hot free agent NCAA prospects that went undrafted are being courted by NHL teams, and you find none of them in the updated DB because they were overlooked.

Cool. Get the details and stuff up and I will totally do everything I can to get some more NCAA and AA-and-below players into the DB. I'm playing Mr. Mom at the moment again and have a little time each day where I can't do much else but plug away at little things on the laptop while a baby sleeps on my lap. Perfect time for me to plug away at some of that sort of stuff.

Also with the NHL lockout (thanks, #$%$-head owners and players both), I have been even more invested in NCAA and pro minors this year than usual. Honestly with the lockout, now is a good time to put some more love into the other leagues anyways.

Hi, i'm having an issue with the new DB (Thanks a lot for the good work, i'll try to help for the next one).

My issue is simple yet strange, i can load the new DB, rosters are accurate for the NHL, except for the NHL 2012 Draft.
Actually none of the drafted players have their rights owned by an NHL team in the game I created.

If i look in the pre-game editor I can see that the update include the draft and that players right's are the way they should be, but I don't know why or how, it just seems that my EHM does'nt load the draft file, I don't know, any help/ideas?

Rick Dudley is the Director of Personnel for Toronto Maple Leafs in the game, when he left the team to become Assistant Manager for the Montreal Canadiens this summer. I do realize right now Montreal has 2 Assistant Manager (other being Larry Carriere) and you can probably only have one in game, but maybe he can have a different job for the club in the game, thanks

@Stastny - we'll keep start of year rosters, but some of the transactions you listed will be implemented. Regarding Medvedev, he'll be present in 5.1, but please have a look at MHL rosters and look how many players are there now and think about Manimal's last rosters.

@Syvis - it will be done for 5.1

@Yakaitshi0 - it will be done for 5.1

@Primis - Please list all the changes needed and we'll do them for 5.1
