Also, on top of that (previous post), what is the font and size for the letters that says RIGHT WING inside the narrow white part?

Every player's name was adjusted to be as large as possible within the given space, so there is no fixed size.

We only used positions in early versions of the template because to often they were wrong making the cards innacurate, so if you have one that has that text you're using an older version of the template. You should get the updated version on our server in the Turorials and Templates section:

http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/index.php ... info&id=26

It has a short tutorial included with it as a text file. If you're using the template then you should have the font information :-? But the name font is Verdana with a light yellow 'outer glow' filter.

Minty, I was using the template from your link. But I was working with GIMP. After I read the tutorial I changed to Photoshop and yes, the font is already there I just have to type in my name. But the real question is what is the font and size of the letters that says RIGHT WING, CENTRE, etc in the narrow white space? It's not in the template, cuz I think someone else use the template and made a bunch of other face card with it with the player position on the card. Help needed, thx. :)

I'm not sure what the font was; it may have been a scaled version of Verdana though. Try scaling it to 70% horizontally and vertically with a bold 12pt base size. In Photoshop there are % numbers in the 'Character' box; just change the 100% to 70%.

Hi Minty, this may seem stupid but where is the 'Character' box in photoshop? I'm a beginner at photoshop, and my version is CS2.

I found the box alright, but I still cant find the font. I'm pretty sure its not verdana, cuz the letters have those edges like in Times New Roman. I've tried many font and still not getting the desire effect. Can you remember by any chance who made the facepacks with position on it? It might be TWolf or Dev88 but I cant remember. It'll be way easier to ask the creator! :)

I'd have thought the text for the positions would have been the same as that for the player names: Verdana in bold.

JeffR was the guy who made the NHL facepacks but Minstrel did a heck of a lot of them too so those two are the guys to ask.

The font seems to bear an uncanny resemblance to the Perry Mason font. I haven't the foggiest clue what the real name of it is. I'll check out 1001freefonts.com and see what I can do...

The manner is suggested using a scaled version of Verdana looked pretty close to me, but feel free to find a font you think might look better and go with that; I've already given you as many answers as I can. Fonts will look drastically different when scaled by percentage in the manner I outlined. IF you don't like that look then expirement to find one you do. I happen to agree with Jeff's decision to leave them out so I have no reason or need to have kept the old version of the template to look up what font was used for something the template is no longer designed for, so follow your own muse to what looks good to you I guess :dunno:

As for finding the Character box all those options are available via the 'Window' menu that allows you to select if you see Tools, Options, History, Layers, etc. menus on your screen; they're all floating boxes and I though that Character was one of the default ones displayed. Some of them are combined in one box with navigational tabs; for example 'Character' and 'Paragraph' (for alignment and spacing) are together. You'd do very well to find some basic 'how to' tutorials to run you through those kind of options as I mentioned earlier.

For example this Beginner's Guide to Photoshop for example.

Then try the Jenniffer Apple turorials located on the middle of this page which cover some good starting points:

http://www.photoshopsupport.com/tutorials.html

From that page you can jump to a million more with tips and tricks.

Hey guys, are you sure its Verdana?

Here's a sample (desired effect)

Image

and here's the Verdana scaled down

Look at the edges of T and R, there's something extra sticking out like the times new roman font.

It also seems that the JeffR template is different from Minty's (I assume he's the creator of the facepacks according to archi).

Here's JeffR's original template
Image

Notice the colour of flag and stick of the 2 cards (Walker & Gretzky) is different, and I think the height of the narrow white strip where the player position is placed is also wider (very tiny) in the Minty's facepack version. In my opinion the font in Minty's facepack is not Verdana.

Minty, if u are the creator of the new facepack with player position showing then you should have the NEW template of the original JeffR template. If you are not the creator, then I hope the creator can soon come and clear things up. :)

I'm not planning on answering this thread unless you begin actually reading the thread and what has already been posted. Maybe someone else can help you re-answer your questions.

He's already said why there is no position text on the template and that the one without it is in fact the latest version; so I don't think it help to compare old cards and the new template as he's already told you they are different. The better flags are also a part of the new template. You can see that the borders are cleaner as well; pointing those out asking if something is different sound like you have yet to understand that the current template is a newer version.

As for the font he didn't say it was Verdana; he said a 12 point scaled Verdana will fit that space and look okay. He also said if that wasn't good enough you should expirement yourself with a font you think looks better and use that. Just asking again what the font is saying it's not Verdana sounds like you're not listening.

If you still need to make your card match the old style exactly then how about you cut and paste 'LEFT WING' or whatever position it is from one of the old version cards and slap it onto the new template card? :dunno:

sorry about that guys, but believe me I read all the post. I was just confused about what minty was saying, when he said about keeping the old version out. I dont really get that... and I guess I was hoping for a straight answer of what the font is. Well I guess I'll just have to do it myself. ;)
