AHL as Independant League

So I attempted to make the AHL run on its own by taking away the NHL Affiliation.
Problem is, the AHL will only sign Vets and that leaves them with incomplete rosters. Any suggestions on getting them to sign kids? I might just make the AHL a U25 league or something...

Did you fix their budgets before starting? Keep in mind, their team budgets aren't generally meant for them to sign and pay 20-some guys. Affiliated players sent down cost them nothing. So you may need to adjust all AHL team budgets. Many teams have a budget to sign maybe 4 or 5 guys tops, and if they're more-expensive Vets maybe only 3 or 4.
Secondly, I've found that the game doesn't have good enough AI to recognize that it needs Non-Vets vs Vets. Again, the game is used to NHL teams sending down youngsters so it doesn't sign them itself. The game wasn't meant to do that, so the game wasn't designed with it in mind.
I have played many games of EHM as an Independent in the AHL, so I'm familiar with some of these wrinkles.

I don't believe I did no!
I'll give it a try and see how it goes.
