ehm 2005 salary cap question regarding players on ir

I am looking at adding a player at the deadline. I currently have 2 players on Ir, one for 3 months and one for 10 days and we are approaching the trade deadline. How do I determine if either or both of these players currently count against the cap. I have added up my numbers and they don't add up if I add all the players including those players to what my cap currently says, nor does it add up if I don't add in either player or if I only add in one of the two.

None of the numbers match which makes it very hard to determine if I can actually add a player or not.

Any help with the question would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dano

Your salary total goes down immediately when you place a player on IR, if that player salary is causing the cap to be higher. If he is not, the salary total does not go down. And it is an estimate as to when the player will come off IR....so when you take him off it may go up a bit.

So...you already have the estimated salaries you are paying out based on the players on the IR, and can add over and above that. Because you are at trade deadline you also have the fact that most of the salaries have already been paid out.

Say 2/3 of salary already paid. So if you have $2 mill cap room, you may have room for a $6 mill player.

However...that is not the exact math above, with the 2/3 thing, so do not follow that to the tee.
