				Pronger Wants Out?

There's a rumor going around that Pronger wants out of Edmonton, due to family reasons
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=169528&hubname=
This is unbelieveable, if its actually true. This guy was hands-down Edmonton's playoff MVP, and he probably would have won the Conn Smythe if Edmonton took home the Cup.
I'd imagine a lot of Edmonton fans are in a panic right now. For their sakes, I hope EDM gets a good return on Pronger if they have to move him. However, I keep hearing that a player's trade value absolutely plummets when he requests a trade. I mean, look at the Heatly for Hossa & DeVrees (sp?) trade at the beginning of the season. We all know who came out on top in that deal.
I guess time will tell...

Man... I just plain don't get this one. It has been officially confirmed too, he's requested a trade.
This has to be gutting for Edmonton... and I can't see how they can get equal value for him especially as his salary has drastic effects on any team that would take him's Cap future even further limiting possible trade partners.
As for Heatley/Hossa that really was as close as value for value as you can get talent-wise; no matter what their stats were this year. Edmonton would be lucky I'd think to come anywhere near that close when the Pronger deal hits the scales.

I think I could actually cheer for the Leafs next year if they pick up Pronger, especially if McCabe is lost in the process.

Pronger wants traded because of personal reasons, FWIW.
Something about his family, supposedly.

Not that the weather is better in Pittsburgh(not that they are even staying there for sure) but I'd love if the Pens were able to swing a Gonchar/Pronger deal!

It's not like hes gonna come out and say "Craig Mctavish stares at me too much in the shower" or "kevin lowe doesn't brush his teeth enough" or "that trainer dude just freaks me out when hes singing" or "me and jason smith got really drunk this one night at the hotel...."
Whatever his 'personal' reasons were, the public will never know.

Nice work. Personally this is where I give millionaire atheltes zero slack. The only acceptable forms of "personal" reasons are those involving serious medical matters, serious enough to keep you from playing hockey for a living at the time. And those? We actually hear of in those terms, that's fine by me. I'm not a totally blackhearted fool...
Othwerwise though all I hear is "This place isn't good enough for me to stay here and get paid millions of dollars for half a year to play a game." and I raise ye olde BS flag real quick

I say that because there are literally billions of people that every day do things they don't want to do, live places they don't really want to live, etc. because it is simply what must be done to support themselves and/or loved ones and they're mainly doing it in a "just getting by" situation not a life of luxury like an elite pro athelete.

So I say to McCabe and Pronger and every other whiny millionaire: Just effin
deal with it. Whatever it is. and then go home and snuggle up to the fact that you just made more money at the rink for three hours than the people who teach your kids made last year. So, if Place A isn't good enough for you but Place B is just fine then you're just being a baby and/or primadonna and you are reinforcing the stereotype of the poor poor million dollar athelete who is so put upon by his glamorous job. We don't want to hear it. So just shut your rich overpriveledged mouth cause yer making us all retch.

For a guy and his family staying in St. Louis for the past 9 years, a sudden change to Edmonton, dont you think its a pretty extreme change of weather?(if you even know what the weather is like in Edmonton) and the rumor is that Pronger himself doesnt have a problem with staying, but his wife has an opinion on living in Edmonton, and Pronger needs to consider whether his wife is more important or his dedication to the Edmonton Oilers is. I'm sure we all know the answer to that.

As for the hypothesis that Pronger has an issue with the edmonton staffs just sounds to me a little rediculous. After acquiring Pronger, the managing staff in Edmonton made it pretty clear that they want him and Pronger respond to their hospitality by siging a long term contract meaning that he wants to stay too. If he had an issue with the managment he probably wouldnt even want to play in edmonton in the first place let alone sign it long term. And for a team just one win away from Stanley Cup would anyone wants to quit this team because they had a problem with some players? or we can look at it this way: if a team has a locker room disfuntion would they go as far as into the stanley cup final? They probably wouldnt even make the playoff (ie Vancouver).
All in all, I think the problem is not Pronger but his wife.

Heh, don't worry Tom I gotcha and even gave ya applause

I'd actually buy someone wanting out of StLousy just due to the weather actually... St. Louis is a miserable place to live weather-wise btw; due to it being right on the Ole Missisip the humidity is always in the high 90% range and in general it is very very flat geographically so there is no kind of breeze just this thick oppresive stillness; it is the worst kind of 'don't dare go out of the house' hot there in summer. It's like living in Hades but with more humidity; as a friend of mine who grew up there once told me.

I visited him there once. Once. As they say the only way I'm going to go back to St. Louis in the summer is if I live twice.
