EHM The Blue Line

A little background info - I'm in a Freeware EHM league where every year we run a National, Olympic style, tournament during the offseason. I let the GMs name their players, and I edit away at the schedule to sim group play and elimination as we go. Our guys really like it, and it's pretty easy to facilitate in classic EHM.

We want to experiment with moving to EHM 2007 for our regular season play, and I thought the tournament would be a good way to test that out, but I'm running into some issues setting it up.

First issue is how to get a tournament setup. I'm using a the latest roster update, and have a new save game in Sept 2014. I thought there was a way to create a tourney in game? Basically, I thought you take control of a National team and invite a few others to a tournament, but it's not even showing an option to do that. Is it just setup so that the National teams can't invite teams to play in a tournament? Is there a particular date I need to have the game at? (postseason maybe?)

Secondly, I was able to boot a few players from a National team thinking that I could name a few pro's to the team, but it appears that isn't allowed either because their NHL teams need them. Is that just because it's at Sept, beginning the year? Would it work in the offseason?

Maybe I'm approaching this wrong and there is a better way to do this? Any feedback or suggestions would be great!

Are you asking about EHM 2007?...I'm not sure what the "FE" refers to
IIRC for EHM07 you can select a 3 or 4 team Tournament (during the PreSeason, from the Schedule screen, click Arrange)

I've never GMed a National Team, so I don't speak from experience, but I think (as you suspect) timing is the issue...

With EHM07 you can be the GM of a National Team, but you can't edit the Competitions the National Teams play in.
AFAIK GMing a National Team is a "temporary experience" in-game (you're hired before the Olympics or Worlds, and your job ends after the Tournament is over...I don't think you can be a permanent National Team GM)

It seems the WC's only allow you to choose from the non-playoff bound NHL players. Does anyone know if the Olympics work differently and allow me to choose any national player?

I'm not sure, but I think you can pick anyone (who's not on IR) during the Olympics, as the NHL shuts down and plays no games during the Olympics (while during the Worlds the NHL Playoffs are occurring)
