Cheat/Exploit

Not sure if anyone tried this before but I just found kind of a cheat/exploit in the game. I'm in my 12th year with the Devils and just signed Joni Pitkanen from Detroit. When I traded him he was only going to be a loaner for the year because he was making 6.5 million and was by far the highest paid player on my team. I tried a tactic I have done before but only offered him a one year deal not a two. I offered him 6.25 million dollar contract instead and I was surprise to see he accepted it. The next day I offered him a 5.75 and he accepted that. I keep going and now I am at 4.9 a year and still going. He s really asking for a five year deal so as soon as I get him as low as I can I'll sign him to that. Just though I pass along the info I know it’s cheap so do what you want with it. At least it will enable me to keep my new favorite first line in tact for a while.

Serious? I didn't know it would work THAT good.

It may have had something to do with him being unsigned and it being December, though..

Really? That's a lot better than the 5-year, $17.5M that I got him for.

The loest I could get Pitkanen before the next year was 4.2 (saved over 2 million)but probably could have gotten even lower if I had more time.

If you have a guy unsigned midway through the season like Spezza usually ends up, try this on him.
That is how I got Ovechkin so low

Yea, I have been doing that for a while now. That exploit seems to goes away after about 8 seasons though. It seems that on a whole players ask less as EHM goes on.

This one actually costs you money usually; but the quick re-offer can also be used to bring in staff that don't want to sign for other/lower jobs.
Trying to get a new head scout and he only want to take a coaches offer? Give him one and then offer him a scout position when he signs on. You'll have to pay him coaches wages but sometimes it's the only way... works well for guys that only want a head coach job when you've got a couple open coach slots. Bring him in at HC, reoffer him an assistant job and then bring in the guy you want to fill that now empty HC role. Same deal with guys you want to AGM but will only take a coaches slot.

I have done that. Good point.
Does anyone know wether the players take in account the signing bonus at all? I never offer players signing bonuses because it seems to me that it dosent matter.

Not sure, but i think they might take in account of it when they receive many offers during the off-season... They certainly look at the teams who made an offer, the salary too,but if they can't decide between 2 offers, signing bonus will certainly interest them...
It's also a possible way for weak teams to sign big free-agents. Big guys will see offers from many strong teams,so if yours is not a strong team, giving a high signing bonus may help to sign this big guy you absolutely need in your squad...
But never forget that signing bonuses are took in account in the salary cap...

For my own players I never give bonuses; but yeah when competing on the open market for coaches and free agents I put 'em out there. I begin without them and for the money they ask until I see another team make an offer

Then I up my offer

over what they are asking and add a bonus

I usually do the same...
But i started a new game and i'm on the road to win my 2nd Stanley Cup for my 2nd season,so i don't think i'll need to give signing bonuses on the off-season market...

I'm sure signing bonus is taken into account. It was in the 2005 game. As then signing bonus didn't add the the salary cap, I could sign a player on a low wage and a massive bonus which made them sign. I could spend well over the cap, but as these bonuses weren't counted, I could spend a lot more!

Sounds like a bug... It will surely be fixed for the main patch

They don't make patches for EHM 2005 anymore Shadd.

I never got any patches for 2005, so it may well have been fixed in a patch anyway. Its not a possibility in the 2007 game, I've tried!

This was a loophole of sorts in the 05 version which I don't believe you can "get away with" in EHM 007.
