Waivers Question

I have Ivan Barbashev signed to a 3 year deal, complete with a 2way clause.
I can't send him down w/o having to place him on waivers, whats up with that?

I don't think 2-way clause means you can send him down without waivers. It just effects the player's wages when he is in the AHL / NHL.

He is to young to get sent down to AHL. I assume you are still in the pre-season and then you have to wait a couple of weeks and then you will be able to send him back to juniors....

Ah, yes, that too. Needs to be 20 to go to the AHL. 19 year-olds can only be sent back to juniors.

I read somewhere that waivers doesn't apply after the season and up to a couple of weeks before the new season - is that correct?
I seem to still have to put people on waivers so I'm assuming it's wrong. I had to call a few up for the playoffs due to injuries and it seems like now I'll lose them!

Waivers go in to effect 12 days before the start of the regular season. Waivers last until the day after a teams playing season.

Is that only re-entry waivers? As I'm now in the off-season shouldn't I be freely able to move players to the AHL? Currently anyone who is "eligible for waivers" has to go through waivers still, and has had to since the end of the season (we're still a month from the start of the new season as well).
Obviously I don't want to put them on waivers as I might lose them, and I can only call people up to training camp who are not eligible, otherwise I can't send them back down again. Have I misunderstood something? I just don't have the option to assign them to the AHL and it has been this way since I started so I've been forced into trading players after the playoffs as I can't send them back down.

Fair enough - have I possibly got a bug or is there a restriction that might prevent me sending a player to AHL? (I know there are restrictions numbers wise on experienced players on the AHL roster, but I should still be able to send them there?)

Not a clue why you have that issue. I have not seen it arise. The only time is if the guy is still eligible for junior and is not 20, or he is waiver eligible because has played the right number of games in the NHL.

Well, that's sort of what I mean really. They're eligible for 'regular season waivers', but I thought off-season this didn't apply, but it seems to. So I'm confused as to whether waivers are supposed to apply as I've read they shouldn't, but I can't send players to the AHL without going through waivers unless they are already not eligible for waivers.

I think waivers might apply all year around, and the "waivers starts 12 days before the start of the regular season and ends the day after a team’s season ends" refers to a "regular season waivers period" where players that are normally exempt from waivers are not exempt.
Here's where I Got the above understanding from
http://www.mcsorleys-stick.com/nhl-waiv ... explained/
And this
http://thehockeywriters.com/nhl-waiver-wire-primer/
And here was another relatively recent article with some more on the waivers process and some examples looking at the NJ Devils

"The regular season waiver period begins 12 days prior to the beginning of the regular season and ends the day after a team’s last game"
I think it's the wording of that which is confusing - it makes it sound like outside of those dates there is no 'regular season waivers', so if that is the case, then what is there instead? Just 'waivers' but with the same rules anyway?
I had assumed you could adjust your roster freely and move players between NHL and AHL to be ready for the new season, make trades etc and only be waiver restricted during the season.

Nah, even in the off season NHL teams have to waive their guys to go down to minors. and they just do not bother doing it. Because it is kind of silly to demote a player who has been playing in the NHL when there are no games in either league going on, and no roster limits. I have all my guys on NHL team all off season long.

Yeh I got lucky and Gagner got injured so is on IR. I'm full at 23/23 now though. Can I assign AHL players to training camp still without calling them up?
Have to be careful about calling players up to cover injuries in future or I'm going to lose some talent! That and I need to start cutting the ones that aren't developing...

Yes that is what you need to do cut em. And do not worry in off season about the # on your roster being over roster max at any point until you play your first regular season NHL game. The game will have your #s in red, but it won't stop you from progressing til that first league game.

'' Waivers go in to effect 12 days before the start of the regular season. Waivers last until the day after a teams playing season. ''
That also includes the playoffs so it wouldn't help your case lemming3k.
However I agree that I believe the game omitted to include the exemption period. You should be able to invite AHL guys during traning camp that are eligible to waivers and as it stands it is not possible.

Yep, I just didn't realise I had 22 that were now eligible and I couldn't send them down off-season! darn injuries.
On the plus side, plenty to trade for picks!
