The Injured Reserve - A Little More Info

Hey all, I just realised that I misunderstood the rules regarding the Injured Reserve status within the NHL so I figured there might be others confused as well.

With EHM:EA we have two options when a player is injured:

- Place on 7-day IR, or
- Place on 24-day IR

Here's what the EHM 2005 guide says about IR:

Injured reserve

When a player is injured, it is possible to put the player on injured reserve (IR for short). This can be done via the action menu of the Player Profile Screen. A player must stay on IR for at least one week. Whilst on IR, the player does not count towards the roster limit. This is useful because it allows the GM to call up a replacement player from an affiliate team without having to place a player on the waivers in order to make roster space for the replacement player. In cases where the injury is for no more than 30 days or ten games, it is possible to send down the replacement player without having to first place him on the waivers (see section 15.1 above).

What it doesn't clarify is how and when cap hit is removed.

When you place a player on 7-day IR, his contract remains against the cap. So be cautious of the player you call-up and how his contract may affect the cap.

When you place a player on 24-day IR (otherwise know as Long-term Injured Reserve, LTIR) his contract does NOT count against the cap.

My misunderstanding was that the player's contract didn't count in either IR situation but I was mistaken. Hopefully this helps anyone else who was wondering!

IN EHM 2007 was just IR....and the salary was recalculated behind the scenes as time wore on. Now...you have to put on 24 day to lose the salary. At least that is my understanding. Not sure may be that if on 7 day IR for 2 weeks...salary gets recalculated but I doubt it.

Yeah that's the way I understand now too. I've got Toews on 7-day IR at the moment (was supposedly out for 10-days) so I'll keep an eye out for when/if he goes past 2 weeks on IR and if the contract comes off. As you say...I wouldn't expect it to given the IR status I chose initially.
