Training Camp advice

Hey I am looking for some advice in regards to how everyone runs their training camps and advice on how I am running mine ( currently playing EHM: EA).

Currently what I do
1) I invite any prospect or unsigned RFA that I have available to me. (I find players in my team report menu)

2) I recall all players from my farm teams, unless I am worried about losing a player through waivers

3)I try to balance out my scrimmage rosters, usually have 4 teams with about 15 players per team.

4) I let the scrimmages run

5) I would like to play exhibition games against other NHL teams if possible during training camp (Forgot to set up games early enough this year)

6) I sign prospects who I'd like on my pro or farm team and send back players who are not needed

7) Heres where I have been having most of my problems. When trying to reassign players to farm teams I get a notification saying "No room for this player on the team". Is there a way I can avoid this? I would like to be able to send more than 4 players to my ECHL team.

8) Play exhibition games and try to rotate in majority of players

Any advice on what I have been doing or any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes--I usually go full 20, that way do not risk injury...sit out a few of vets til I make cuts
4. Yes-
5. Yes--I schedule 9 every season, and sometimes 10. Run them on the days where the guys are not scrimmaging. Start the day after the first scrimmage
6. Hardly ever sign prospects...have to have a really good showing at camp, or be eligible to play in AHL. So I do sign Euros but right after the draft, not at camp where they have a year to wait and play in Europe. Top level picks from Europe anyway....sometimes let later picks stay in Europe a year.
7. This happens with ECHL Teams alot...because they are basically independent. What I do if I am in need of my ECHL team is control their camp during pre season. Usually I only need room for one or two and if I cannot get them to ECHL team I loan older guys (AHL vets) who will never make my team out to other AHL or ECHL Teams.
8. Yes....by game 5 I am playing mostly the vets but in lower lines and with younger guys to see what the younger guys can do in top level roles. Then by game 7 or 8 (Depends on youthfulness and competition for spots on team) I am going with mainly the guys that are making the team, and the last cuts in each position.

That sounds exacly right for the most part what you are doing. I do not practice during camp as it fatigues the guys big time. Camp works em out so do not need to have em on the ice all the time.

Has anyone ever had a player fighting for a spot in on the roster from the randomly selected training camp players? I always invite my unsigned players and call up the guys from the AHL, but I always get these scrubs to join the team. However, there's never a player among them who even has a little bit of talent.

In training camp the main problem is that normaly arrive players (if you leave it open) that cant play even ECHL...so its best to have is closed and invite UFAs you like.

In the training camp screen, on the right (but closest to middle). Drop down menu asks if want camp open or closed.

ECHL roster rules are very different from other leagues. There is a hard limit of players *on the roster* (not active, but on the roster at all), and ECHL teams will first and foremost give priority to the players they themselves have signed. The end result is you can usually only ever send 3-4 players tot he ECHL. It's just the way it is. ECHL rosters in real life and frustrating to deal with, and real ECHL GM's get a bunch of vague IR slots to play with to fudge it and keep guys around. They stick perfectly healthy guys on IRC as a form of "scratch". But you don't get that luxury in EHM. This is then further aggravated by the fact ,many ECHL teams often have 2 NHL affiliates competing for spots on the same small roster (although there are less of those now, post CHL merger).

If you catch the ECHL roster at the right time, you can send down a 6 - 8 players before the ECHL team has signed their own players.

If you really want to have a robust farm system, I sometimes whack my ECHL affiliate in the editor and take on a second AHL affiliate instead. Then I can send as many players as I want, wherever I want.

I usually remove all the affiliates except my own for my ECHL team. I usually also take over my farm teams after the first yearsand then I have total control.

One other thing I ran into was when I returned my players to my AHL team... By the time my camp was over my AHL team signed about 15 players... Now my guys are fighting with them for roster spots... Can you take over a AHL team mid game? Even if it's for a short period in time?

Meh, your AHL team will most likely play your guys (at least most) and let the others rot. You may have one or two to loan out. And yes, all you have to do is "Add GM"
