how to get a good goalie

ok so i am nearing the end (i hope) of a rebuild but have been unable to draft a good goalie. i was looking at trading for a good youngish one but the price i'd have to pay is insane. (like three 23 or under 150-160 pa guys is not enough for a 150-160 ca Goalie) FA does not have any real option either. is there any way to get a good starting goalie(150+ pa) without having to trade half my top prospects?

If you didn't get Booth or Blackwood from the first draft then Free agency is probably your best/only bet. So far I've picked up Allen and Price, with Raask, Lundqvist and many others becoming available.

I had to give up a lot for Gibson and he wasn't worth it. Basically it's the one position the AI won't give up easily - unless it's trading with another AI then you can pick up Quick for a couple 4ths and basement prospects....

I think your tactics will also help your goalie perform better. My first two play throughs I didn't adjust tactics and Mike smith was bad. Third time I adjusted tactics and he had a .930 % with a 2.40 gas and 7 shutouta

ok thanks. i did get Callum Booth in the first draft unfortunately he has 102 pa and wont amount to anything. guess i'll sign whatever i can from free agency as i am not to keen on paying the price it seem gibson and vasilevsky have

102 PA? pretty sure his pa is somewhat randomized, probably -14.

You can often get a decent goalie in FA, I just got Jake Allen at 4 mil per season after he won the Vezina. Before that I had Ramo for 3 years who was a serviceable starter as well.

Also Booth is looking pretty mediocre for me right now, hope he's just a late bloomer :dunno:

He's a tad underrated really, but luckily the Yotes have plenty of future talent elsewhere.

I've never seen a goalie develop well in my team, Mason McDonald was a bust, Burke, Gibson average. Allen was already pretty good but hasn't gone up a huge amount and Price I'd have thought would have some room to develop still as he enters his prime but virtually nothing.
I'd say let the AI do the work and pick one up from FA.

That said Booth didn't develop well elsewhere so maybe he's not as good as the game says. Blackwood on the other hand....

I'm playing the challenge right now and Demko is developing into a stud and i also traded for McDonald who looks solid in the AHL.

You could also scour the European leagues.

I traded for Anders Nilssons rights from the Blackhawks, i got Nilsson and a fourth round pick for Jean Gabriel Pageaus rights.
After the first season there was also a couple of nice free agents from the Euro leagues, Alexander Salak comes to mind, the must have been atleast two others which looked good. The attributes are there, but they're all 25 or over.

This can be viewed via the Pre-Game Editor if you want to see PA in the database or via the EHM:EA Assistant if you want to see it in a saved game.
