Nice to get a win in the first game!
Lundqvist looked smooth and composed. Perhaps he'll get a good start to a season for once, after having slow starts the past two seasons.
There were too many scoring chances given up by both teams, though. Early season hockey, I guess

Great first period from Rangers and especially the 3rd line with Stålberg-Lindberg-Miller, then we (Hank mostly) weathered the storm in the coming periods.

He's always been like this. That guy can't take a hit like a champ.

Yeah...Looch was dumb...BUT..... You do not see all you need to see here.
Pavelski came straight out of the box and hit him hard. Players have (if you ask around the league) said in the past that this hit is one of the most dangerous hits as they cannot prepare for the hit at all coming at them.
Now that is not to excuse Milan snapping the way he did....but...well it kind of is...that out of penalty box guy is super dangerous if that puck is at centre ice on the P box side at the ....right (or wrong) moment.

The thing is ... Looch hit was horrible as nowhere near the puck...but the Dustin Brown helmet hit to the face....that was horrid.

He had a good game. I think he will become a very good player for the Hawks.

A few rookies had a good game. Panarin, McCann, Hutton and a few others I am sure. One game. But they are all good players so should do well.
Too bad for Ramo that basically the next shot beat him cleanly on the short side from the blue line unscreened. And then 4 more beat him...mind you not many he had a whole lot of hope on. Just really the Henrik goal he should have stopped.

That three-on-three between the Lightning and Flyers was wild!

Yeah that OT was pretty impressive! Hope most teams will play the Ots like that hehe
The Avs blow up a huge lead in the 3rd. Hope this year will not be as bad as last year, they had alot of problems keeping the lead.

I McDavid-ing loved the 3 on 3 OT, wish my Flyers would've scored at least one of the two penalty shots in the game though

I frankly think that it's redicolous, another gimmick to artificially raise goals scored because for some stupid reason they think that games must be 7-6 or 8-7 just to be a good hockey game.

I'm still skeptical too Alessandro and I'm thinking the same thing as you but I can't deny that yesterday OT's wasn't exciting. In any way, they still fail trying to have scores of 7-6 when last year best scorer had only 87 pts.

Meh. It is gimmicky. But at least this time it is a fun gimmick.

Having three-on-three does not raise the total scores. The games would still be decided anyway.
Total goals scored will be risen, as shootout goals doesn't count.
The reason for the NHL to want more goals is that most watchers want to to see lots of goals scored. They want that kind of entertainment. Since they are the ones buying tickets, merchandise and food, the league tries to please them. Nothing strange in that

I can't speak for Canada, but that's just the way America seems to work these days. Every sport is slowly but surely going from the 'pure' form to the 'most entertaining' form. We are the country that tried dribbling shootouts in soccer, phantom yellow flags in racing, moved back the extra point in football so it's not so 'easy', etc. etc.

Sports are always evolving. Sometimes for the good, sometimes for the bad. What is pure anyway. 7 man hockey? pitching underhand or from 45 feet in baseball? I'd rather have 3 on 3 overtime than the shootout. I'm not a fan of 20 or more tie games for some teams in a season either. A game where we could choose our own rules or at least play historical with correct rules for the time would be nice tho.

I like the way we have it here in Finland. 3 points for a win rather than 2. OT win 2 points and for the loss 1 point. That'd make the team fight a little bit harder for the win imo. And then all games would give the teams 3 points to share which is fare.
