Frosted Logos Project

Due to licensing restrictions, several leagues have not allowed SI Games to show segments of team logos in the game and so they had to shrink the whole logos down to fit in the schedule screens. These logos are so small that it's hard to tell which logo is which.

Hence myself and Minstrel have been re-doing the team logos so that you see a segment of the logo rather than a small version of it. We've done these using Minstrel's Frosted Effect.

Take a look for yourself. The screenshot on the left is what the original EHM 2007 logos look like. As you can see in the screenshot, it's hard to clearly see the logos. The screenshot on the right are our Frosted Logos; they're much clearer and larger:

It is my aim to do frosted logos for every playable team in EHM 2007. I am only going to do frosted logos for licensed teams. I won't do non-licensed teams until they have been "unfaked" to their real names.

So far we have completed the following leagues:
  • NHL
  • North American AHL and ECHL
  • Canadian OHL, QMJHL and WHL
  • British EIHL and EPHIL
  • German DEL
  • Swedish Elitserien and Allsvenskan
You can find the Frosted Logos here.

Nice work. I really like the way all these logos look in the game.

I noticed that you have only done the Oddset League teams in Denmark. In game, teams from the lower division can be promoted to the Oddset League, so if you are considering in adding these teams to the pack I have found the logos for you here.

BTW, I have been trying myself to make these missing logos as Large logos for the titlebar, but I can't seem to figure out how to use transparent colors so the white square around the logos isn't shown in the game. How do use guys do this?

I am using an old version of Paint Shop Pro - version 5,01. It can save as PNG, but these files are missed up in the game, only jpeg works in the game, but eventhough I use transparent colors the white square stays there :(

I also use PaintShop Pro and PNGs seem to work fine for me. Something about PSP that I've never understood is why it doesn't fully support transparent GIFs ](*,) Anyway, when you go to save the PNG and you get the Save Dialogue Window, click on the Options button (it should be below the buttons that say Save and Cancel). I think that should give you various file options - I if remember correctly, one of those should allow transparent PNGS. Just have an experiment and see how it goes.

Thanks for the info about the Danish league - I didn't know that. I'll fill in the missing logos when I've completed the Slovenia set (there's some extra logos I need to find for this).

Thanks, I've figured out how to use the transparency feature on PNG's now, but I still can't get the logos to look good. They all get a naff looking white outline all the way around the logo :(

I guess you're using the Magic Wand tool to get rid of the white. You need to increase the tolerance of the tool. Also, I use the Eraser tool (make it about 4 pixels in size and with about 50% hardness) to get rid of the final bits of white. With the UK logo pack I made it took hours to make the logos fully transparent and look good.

Ok, thanks for the tips. darn, I hoped it could be done with just the magic wand. Guess I'll have to put some more time into it :)

I can be done with just the wand but it will look like it's been done with just the wand unless you have a source with very clear borders  Even with ones that go through well with the wand you should check them for rough edges etc.

You should learn to use a mask layer instead of the eraser because masks are non-destructive to your source, if you erase a section you can always come back later and restore it by altering your mask (once you've flattened the layer you're out of luck though....) also Photoshop has the 'History Brush' that you can paint portions of an image back to a point in the transformation history...

I use the polygonal selection option in Photoshop quite a bit, not sure if there is a coresponding PSP tool but I'd guess there is; you click where you want to start then draw a line to your next point etc until you come back to the original point and draw the selection area along your points. That can really help speed things up as can the 'magnetic' lasso that will draw your selection along any defined line...

If you are working from a large source image you can select the background and shrink the selection my a pixel to cut off the edge so you don't get a while line around the outside of a jersey for example.

Where do we save these logo's to get them in game?

Each set of logos come with a readme.txt which tells you where to put them. If you're still having trouble then don't hesitate to ask for more help :)
