Hi, now that EHM:EA changed from EHM 07:s regens system to a newgen system how does this work? What determinates what ca and pa a player will have, in which club he will appear and which nationality he will have and how good players of certain nationalities will be?

I'm not convinced that it goes to a newgen system. I still think its a regen system

It is newgen. Otherwise we would have had 100000 posts of finding the CHara regen and the Hasek regen here. :-D

Ha! I remember those discussions from the ehm 2007! And we'll agree to disagree on the new/regen theme- I've done several long simulations and i'm convinced there are regens, but move on!

As to the original question i'd presume the computer generates a random amount of players(with certain percentage of players from each pa range), who then get signed up by youth clubs, before they eventually make it to the draft age.

It's a hybrid between regens and newgens. I think Riz posted a bit more detail a while back, but I can't remember the details.

Under the EHM 2007 regen system, new players were in may ways carbon copies of their predecessor (i.e. same PA, certain physical attributes). Under the new hybrid system there's a lot more randomisation which means regen hunting isn't really that possible so much (apart from maybe smaller nations with few players).

Also the current newgen system is regulated, as in the world will always have a certain amount of talented players. So that the world doesn't depopulate and you end up with the NHL being filled with AHL talent.

Whilst it might seem to be the case right now due to progression being worked on, the current players in the database are also 'overrated' to a pretty big extent causing later generations to not be as good as they can, and causing the likes of McDavid, Eichel, Matthews etc. to be pretty dominant for a long time.

But as the system works, 20 years into the saves future the game should have regulated itself in such a way that there's an equilibrium of talent at all times, sometimes more than the default and sometimes a bit less, but never significantly less than what's been set in stone. So you'll have your Crosby's, Ovies, Giroux's, etc.

Also due to limitations, the big nations will always produce more talent than the smaller nations, and that's the one issue that might crop up is that renewgens lack the nationality diversity of the standard database. Nations like Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Germany etc. will flounder whilst Canada/USA/Sweden/Finland etc. will stay strong.

Yes, that's one of the things I'm finding is that countries that should have at least SOME hockey players are absolutely barren within 15-20 years, countries like Hungary for instance. I like diversity and the fun of finding a player in an overlooked reason and taking a chance that a player from, say, Israel or Turkey can be an NHL-level talent. I hope this can be adjusted someday.

Hi guys, really weird thing happened to me. On one day Poyhonen had pretty good youngsters skills and on other day his skills rocketed up high. It happened right after he completed the transfer from Finland to Ottawa. He was signed after the training camp. Anybody with similar experience?

A potential solution: One of the things I used to do in FM was go to every country around the world and add a very old player with a random potential, then the regens would give a chance that the next soccer stud could be from New Caledonia or something. No idea how the hybrid system would handle that, but maybe that solves some of the issues with only the major countries getting NHLers?

It was done under Lidas too, I talked a lot with him about the best way to deal with smaller nations. Dunno if there are traces left?

No, there are no traces left of that. It is easy to implement, though. Just create a few players and possibly also program their retirements
