Team/fans with crazy expectations

I've been GMing for the Maple Leafs for 3 seasons. I won the SC during the 3rd season, yet I struggle to keep the board and the fans happy. I have 9 defenders on my roster, so somebody has to go. I have a 25 yo guy who's 8th on my depth chart among defensemen. I trade him for a 1st round pick? Boom! I have an unhappy board and fans on my hands. Do that with the 7th guy on my depth chart? The same. I made trades that have taken the team to 1st place, yet any trade I make comes with huge backlash to the point where I can't even make space on my roster or get under salary cap without an uproar. Last time it took me months and being 1st in the conference for quite a while for them to settle down, even though I traded expandable players and garbage for a 22 yo Ristolainen, who immediately became the team's #1 defenseman.

So my question is, is there a way using EHM Assistant to reduce this? Are there any settings? I can't imagine any fanbase or board being so stupid that they don't realize that I can't have 9 defensemen on my team all season long and that I need to get within salary cap boundaries.

Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Yeah, that's what I thought initially. Only in-game, fans got mad for dumping Phaneuf for a player and a pick. That's a pretty awful simulation if I've ever seen one.
