It depends why you want to do with your teams :<

Reconstructed :
- Trades your players during the season for picks and good young players (scout them in CHL is very important)
- Sometimes you gonna have after the season some big names from the other leagues has a free agent, if you think i can improve your team, sign him

You want the cup (Prime time) :
- You must have a lot of good 18-19-20 y/o in your team
- Try the have the best of your 20 y/o
- Dont have a 20 y/o euro because you take 2 places in your team instead of one

Homegrown players is when you dont have enough players to play for a game, the program automatictly give you some players to made your tactics full
You can have only 2 foreigns players in your tactics

The majority of my games are CHL, I'd say the main thing is have plenty of scouts, permanently assign some to the main U18 leagues and keep sending the best ones not permanently assigned somewhere to scout the OHL & Import draft over and over through the year, doesn't hurt to have a scout scout the league you're in itself to look for other teams good young prospects. Although time consuming and boring for some, I go through a ton of players and find some real good late round or unranked steals.
Other than that I get at least one trainer and try to have all the coaches styles not clash and have all the staff with decent 'working with youngsters' ratings ... things seem to go smooth that way
