question about players eligible for the salary cap

Hi, maybe it have been discuss in some forums but I didn't found anything on it.

I need to understand how it works for the salary cap player eligibility.

I play with the habs and in my second off season, im over the salary cap by 2 millions. So I look at the board of salary cap (SC) and i see who is eligible for the SC. I dont understand how it works cause i got some nhl player who are not counted in de SC and some AHL prospects that are included in the SC with their NHL contract. So guys like Tim Gleason. grabovsky or Yan Danis that are in my habs team are not counted in the SC and some guys like latendresse, price, kostitsyn who are AHL players, are eligible for the SC with their big contract of around 850 000 $/year. So I have around 4-5 millions of salary of non NHL player that is included in my Salary Cap. That's a lot for players that dont play in my big team.

So I really dont understand this. If someone could explain me briefly how it works i will apreciate it.

Sorry for my english. French people who know the answer are then welcome.

THKS a lot in advance !!!

Offseason the Cap figures follow the same process as the real NHL teams are held to; the figures are based upon the Top 24 salaries on your team; that inlcudes all the players in your system. So even if you have a player in the AHL that is being paid a small fraction (usually 20%) of the actual contract you have him signed to in the offseason his full salary if playing at the NHL level is used for the "24 largest contracts" figure.

I posted some more info on the Cap in this thread as well:
