Anyone else have a similar issue with waivers activity being rampant into later years in the game?

I've entered 2023-24 season and TONS of teams have been placing multiple players on waivers, sometimes 4-5 at a time. Now I know prior to the season starting, and just after training camp this activity rises, but I'm halfway through October! It just seems odd. Anyone else experience this?

Also the following season prior to the start, Auston Matthews (who for the most part has been a bust) was placed on waivers, following a 26 goal, 52 point season. What gives with this? Also the Blackhawks have a clearly NHL ready prospect in Roger Simon, and they just sent him to the AHL (though I suppose it isn't waivers) Anyone else experience weird waiver transactions?
