Setting up an online league

Hello everyone,

I have played this game for a while now but I don't know much about the online aspect of it yet.

I've been playing with friends in a "Sim league" that use a logicial that is really much more basic than EHM since about ten years and I'd like to see if we could use EHM instead for the future.

Has anybody set up an online league with friends?

I'd like to know the basic steps to set up a league. Do you need a commish? Do you need to set up a server so everyone can have access to the game 24/7 etc.?

The logicial we use in our "Sim league" is relatively simple. A commish has a commish version of the logicial while the others have a client version of it. Other GM use their version to make their lines and sign FA. We then upload our lines on a website we own and use as a portal. The commish than download the lines sent every day in his version of the logicial, he then sims and upload the results and stats files that display on our portal.

Now I wonder if it's possible to do something comparable with EHM that would work easily and be accessible for everyone in our group. We are around 15 mostly active GM.

Thanks for the info.

Well, TBL is forum access for 3 online leagues right now....How we run is the host lets the game run 24/7 and everybody else can just log in and out as they please and use a remote desktop software to save the game or advance it. I have no idea what a logicial is, but, it sounds like you're doing things the way they did in the freeware days.

As mentioned by vilifyingforce, the way you describe is the freeware-style of game.

With EHM 2004 onwards (Including EHM 1) the host will run the game on their computer essentially like the normal game. Each other user can then log into the host's game via their own copy of EHM 1 and play it just like you would in single player. So there's no uploading of lines, etc. The game has to be running on the host's computer in order for other users to play (so if you turn off the host's computer or he exits the game, other users will not be able to login).

I've read some leagues are using servers as their way of keeping the game open. The main one I've slightly read about is using amazons service. I don't want my laptop to be the main function. I was wondering if someone would be able to introduce me to a site like aws or how to set up using aws.

Presumably these servers have Windows (or possibly Linux) installed in order to run the game?

The three leagues on tbl all just use somebody's desktop as host in their house. All 3 run Windows. It's not an intensive game so when I hosted I just used my old pos desktop and left it running.

What exactly are you looking for a guide on? You click on the New Online Game button and pass your IP address to your friends so that they can log-in.

I figured I'd just post here rather than making a new thread.

I am currently in an online league (NOHL). I can join that league in-game and do everything perfectly fine. HOWEVER, when I go to host my own league between a friend of mine and myself, he is unable to connect. I have asked many others to connect and they also could not, leading me to believe the problem is solely on my end. Yes, I opened the ports. Yes, the other ones too. Yes, my IP is static. I have no idea what else to do, and others I know who run leagues cannot help me. So, I come to you, oh wise EHM community, how can I get it to work?

The online thing special about my setup is I am connecting through a 2nd router acting as a bridge to the main one, however the ports are opened on both and I tried connecting straight to the main router (changing the IP on which the ports are open, ofc) and still failed. I am stumped.

EDIT: Yes I gave them my external IP and not just the one EHM says is the server address.
