Has NHL given up?

Its funny how only a few games are scheduled for sunday this season. I guess the NHL has given up competing with the NFL? and the only team that do play on sunday are mostly cities with no football teams.

Well Sunday is basically "NFL Day" for about 99.99% of the U.S. ... So, it wouldn't make much sense for an unpopular sport to waste games on a day when they are guaranteed to be eclipsed by NFL games. It would be better to have them during the week when there's at least a small chance of people watching them due to nothing else being on.
Personally, I see it more as a smart marketing move rather than giving-up.

I agree with B.Stinton. It is far more feesable to put it on day's where you would get some following rather than on a day where they would be none at all.
Only problem is if it was midweek and England got coverage I would nto be able to stay up and watch it due to having to be up early in the morning for College.

When people stop watching college football, and demand hockey instead... because American Saturday's are already dedicated to college football.

Weekends = Football.
That will never change.
People have grown up with weekends being the days where you wake up and catch the football games before trudging back to work on Monday before Monday Night Football.
I'll go to a Hurricane's game anyday no matter what, but alot of people would think otherwise.

And when College ends their season the NFL takes over Saturdays too... but this has been this way for several years now actually; with the NBC coverage of the NHL on Sundays not starting until late in the year after football is over.

THE NHL is being smart. However, as a fan it sucks. I wish there were more games Sat and Sun on television to see. Period. As well as playing more than they are on Sundays now.
I can't wait for Hockey Day in Canada. Every Jan or Feb there is a day where all 6 Canadian teams play, and it runs all day. First game is about 12 Pacific, then 3 and 7. This is one of the best hockey shows ever. They go around the country to different cities, small towns and rinks, and it is just a party, celebration of hockey. Almost wish something like this could be done every week.
I would be real curious what Hockey Day in Boston, or Minnesota would be like. In New York, I already know it will be Messier day.

Oh how I love Hockey Day in Canada!!!

I watch the whole darn thing front to back; it is without a doubt the coolest thing evar for a hardcore hockey sole like me who lives in the most ironic of hockey Siberias. I love that they carry the whole thing on CenterIce. That really is a great presentation. I love seeing the kids playing and meeting up with the pros like the kids that got to go to the practice with the Canucks last year and then had lunch before the game with them. Their eyes were like saucers; it was great to see.
