Question about waivers

Hi there

My name is Paul I am new to the boards and EHM. I recently purchased the game from Steam and took over the LA Kings as this is the team I have started to follow on my NHL.TV subscription. My question arose after I realised my player salary was above the league cap right from the start and I am looking to get rid of one or two players that I am not looking to use on my first squad. I see I can release a player or put the on waivers but since I am new to the NHL (I used to watch the Elite League in the UK a few years ago) I am not sure what is meant by waivers or which option is best to clear space on my rosta. Any help would be great, thanks.

You can put a player on waivers and immediately after that demote him to your AHL team, where his salary won't count against the cap. But players on waivers can be claimed by other teams so placing a player on waivers risks losing him. Releasing a player might make other players angry, and you should avoid it. It might work in smaller leagues, but I would advice against it in the NHL.

With the new CBA, only a portion of a player's salary doesn't count against the Salary Cap when a player is sent to the AHL (from "NHL CBA FAQ - what is a Buried Contract: The players salary cap hit, minus the sum of the minimum NHL salary for the respective season and $375,000, still counts towards the team’s salary cap total" https://www.capfriendly.com/faq)

Some (younger/inexperienced) players are exempt from waivers, depending on how many games they've played; here's a guide to the waiver process http://www.litterboxcats.com/2013/10/7/ ... a-panthers

Thanks for the responses guys. I have put a player on waivers and transfered him to the AHL but my total salary pa hasn't changed so I guess I will just to monitor it.

The total salary should remain the same, as you continue to pay the player's wages. It's Averaged Club Salary that is counted against the cap.
