Oh noooooO! Just what I need. But check out the Mn (north star) Oiler playoff game in the Oilers section! Oh the room on the ice, oh the slow skating. Oh the lack of clutch and grab. And man are those guys small. The golden age of hockey (for me anyway)...and it is 1991. Some of you were not even born yet for that were you?

There's no way this will last. I mean... full games to download for free to watch whenever you want? All of which includes old games from eras that some of us may not have even been born to see...?... and this is all for... our sport? - Not baseball; not basketball; not football; not soccer... hockey... NHL hockey...?

Right now, it's only a matter of time before the a-hole next to us smacks us on the back of the head because the bell rang for the end of class.

That was my thought on this exactly... enjoy it while it lasts because it really does seem too good to be true.

There is a Habs-B's game from the 79!!!! That was hockey!!!

I really enjoy watching the old games. Mainly because I'm a fanatic about history, and because the game was so much better than it is today. The '74 Flyers vs Bruins game is almost non-stop action... and best yet... the refs are barely noticeable! I've seen so many clean plays/hits made and let go, that would be called instantly in today's game. [joke at modern hockey]I've even seen players try to take the puck from someone and not get penalized for it! - Then they skate up ice with the stolen puck for a really exciting scoring chance![/joke at modern hockey].

Yeps, I also prefer "old time hockey" and I will watch the 74 B'-Flyers....one of the reasons is that I want to see that famous Philly defense from these years!! I heard they were really tough!!!

This is really a cool feature!!! I wish there would be more hockey from the 70'-80'es!!! Would be GREAT!!!

You can always tell how old a Hawks game is by the number of advertisments and logos on the ice and on the boards. It's amazing the rubbish we've gotten used to via constant viewing and seeing pure white rinkboards without a single ad on them makes you yearn for the olden days.

However, I think I will skip watching the Canucks-Wild game from tonight.

I think we should be happy with what it is now. For ice ads, they currently only use those four small spots in the nuetral zones... they have plenty of room and time to turn the ice into a collage of ads.

I can see it now... the NHL Rule Book:

"The official playing surface for all NHL teams shall only be the color of any company that is willing to pay us money to flaunt their logo on our ice."

Agreed, I moreso meant about the rink boards which didn't used to have anything on them at "The Old Barn" and the oly thing besides lines on the ice were two small indianheads, one near each blue line. It's really shocking in comparison to the current UC center ice and rink boards.

At least the NHL sweaters haven't become like the Europeon leagues as well so things can and will get worse of course Not sure if anyone's noticed that Reebok has "bought" the league's bluelines for example, not on ice but the continuation of the blue line up the boards is now a reebok ad for example.

Actually, i think this might last, atleast to the end of this season. All the other sports mentioned above, soccer, football, basketball etc. have more viewers, and therefore the leagues can gain more money from tv-companies trying to win the tv-rights for the sports. NHL however, doesnt have as many viewers. I'm not saying that NHL tv-rights are cheap, but compared to other sports, that might just be the thing. Now that people are able to see NHL games for free, it'll get more exposure and that may result in more fans who go to the games or buy some tv-channel package and watches the games from tv.

This looks absolutely fantastic However, being a beta, it makes me wonder whether this will carry on next season. As others have mentioned, why choose hockey when there's other US sports that are more widely watched?

I'm pretty sure the NHL is paying them...

I think eme is on to something though; I bet this is a test run by Google to see what the bandwith draw would look like if this was to be done for a sport that won't have billions from around the world clammoring to watch everything added and they can safely do a test run and take the figures and multiply by however many to get a glimpse of what the costs to run such a feature would be for other sports; maybe even so they can say "As you can see for hockey this feature drew x number of page loads" for advertising and approaching other sports...

Maybe we're actually benfitting for once for being "the little guy" of N.A. sports.
