What is this? I asked the board for more money and they gave me more transfer funds but Do I even use that? I have $23mil in transfer funds

It depends on your league; in the major NA leagues NHL/AHL/ECHL no, you don't use them.

There are two monetary options you can ask the board about one is increase transfer funds and the other is "make extra player budget available" and that is the one that will allow you to spend more on salaries without the Board getting on you about it. It will not raise the league Cap amount of course but if your board isn't allowing you to spend to the Cap then it will give you more money to offer players.

is that really the case with nhl teams in real life. aren't all the teams allowed by the owners to spend 44 mil.

Each team in real life has their own budget of what they want to spend because teams make wildly different amounts due to their teams' popularity and market. Due to their stadium issues for example Pittsburgh can't get anywhere near 44 mil or the team would have to fold basically as they've already declared bankruptcy once. So no, all owners don't simply tell their GMs "spend to the Cap"; not by a longshot...

The AHL teams can actually buy players from each other with cash. They can also buy players from European clubs. I did it a couple of times when trying out the AHL.

Minstrel: When you give the players signing on fee, are these taken from the transfer funds?

EDIT: In the leagues where they are not used I mean.

Signing on fees are taken from your overall balance as a team I think just like anything else so I don't think they are subtracted from your Transfer Fees I think they just aren't really ever used in an NHL setting I don't know that for sure though...

Don't they get taken from the player budget?

Like if you sign a guy to 500.000 for 5 years, plus 500.000 signing bonus, then it takes 600.000 pr. year from the player budget?

The reason in that case that the per year is more than the actual contract amount is due to perccentage of signing bonuses being added to how the player is counted against the Cap... but your bonus money doesn't affect how much you can spend on players.

Ok, that makes sense. Guess I have mixed the calculation against the cap and the actual budget together.

How comes "make extra player budget available" is locked in my Panthers game, but they are willing to give me extra funds for transfers ?...which I can't spend anyway since there are no cash transfers in the NHL ??

They have no money for extra funds...so that is why it is locked (greyed) out. No reason to if the team is in financial difficulty, or you are not over budget. If you are a little over, and team revenues are good, sometimes they will give you more.

If you are alot over...they no likey you.



As for transfer funds, in the NHL I have no clue, never paid attention.

Yeah I just don't get why they have money for transfers...but not for salaries

From my understanding, and I wouldnt mind more clarification on this, in EHM 2005, transfer funds are directly related to signing bonuses. This amount is usually the maximum you can offer as a signing bonus and then once you have signed a player that amount of signing bonus is subtracted from the total.

I only play in the NHL in game so it does have an affect on game play.
