What CPU/OS is EHM 1 optimized for?

Just wondering as I am looking to upgrade my PC but would like to optimize for what CPU/OS platform EHM 1 runs most efficiently on.
Currently playing on XP/P4@3Ghz (ya very old but still plays fine)... not sure if EHM 1 takes full advantage of today's modern CPUs and OSs.
Any SMP support? (symmetric multiprocessing/multiple threads)

For leagues you are interested playing later you can run them as View-Only. Also on compressed save game seems working faster.

I would say judging from pure observation that it appears to be almost entirely single threaded (htop/top based observations, might be wrong).
So having a high clock rate and high IPC (instructions per clock cycle) are probably the most important performance improvements.
E.g. intel cpus with very high freqs but with few cores/no hyperthreading is probably the best "performance per dollar" you can get get.

My old machine with an ancient AMD FX 4100 (quad core) is still plenty to run it good enough though (by my standards) but I guess then you are back at almost where you are now.
The memory requirement is extremely low compared with what is common minimum requirements Today (e.g. 8GB in 2017s AAA games).
Using smaller database (avoid huge) and having few leagues enabled works really well to decrease simulation time though.
If you want to see other leagues do what Named wrote above, put them as view only.
Personally I haven't seen any difference between compressed saved or not, maybe that is OS/disk access time dependant (Linux + SSD here)?

Yeah I don't think EHM really uses multi cores. Upgrading from an i7 2630qm (2.0-2.9 ghz) to an i7 7700hq (2.8-3.8 ghz) has resulted in very little in terms of performance improvement. I think any modern CPU will be fine.
Assuming you have a modern system, the best upgrade is to use an SSD. I found that made the game noticeably quicker.

wondering instead of a 'modern' system....should go with a now cheap Pentium 4 system but put in the fastest clocked version which was 3.8Ghz (overclock to 4Ghz) and then as suggested team it with a nice SSD hard drive.

As mentioned above, I am now running a 3.8 ghz i7 (when running Turbo Boost) and can see little to no difference against the 2.9 ghz i7 I used to have. So I'm not too sure you'll get much benefit.
