This is a pretty weird trade in my mind.

It is weird, but the Flyers need the help on D. I hear that Rathje is hanging them up due to injury, so Zhitnik's $$$ is essentially replacing Rathje's $$$ on the Flyers payroll. Decent move for them.

Good move for the Isles if they get the 2008 2nd rounder instead of the 2007 conditional 3rd.

The Flyers are too far gone.

Even with that being the case, Zhitnik is a nice pickup for them.

Where do you see a 2008 2nd rnd pick mentioned in the deal?

Take a look at Tim Pannacio's blog on Hockeybuzz.com

About 3 paragraphs in, he quotes Paul Holmgren.

After Crosby made him look old and slow on Friday night, Zhitnik will fit right in with Philly's slow blueline....A questionable deal only because the Flyers are pretty much out of it this year and should be looking at rebuilding with youth as opposed to trading it away for more old defensemen past their primes

Nice cap room clear for the Isles... I really like how they are playing under Nolan and maybe this can get them an extra piece of the puzzle for a serious playoff push.

And Philly continues to look like a case of meet the new boss, same as the old boss  So fora it's Fedoruk and Zhitnik brought in the cure the team's to slow and too reliant on physical play tendancies :-? Curious and curiouser.

I want to ramble on about how I think this is another major misjudgment of talent on Holmgren's part...

... but instead... I'm gonna skip all that and jump to saying that I can't wait till the day when Homer is fired. I don't like saying stuff like that about anybody, but this Flyers team is getting more and more ridiculous by the minute, and these Holmgren trades are just accelerating the process. First it was Fedoruk, who was praised as one who would add "speed and leadership" to the team. Now it's 34 year old Zhitnik who, you guessed it, will add "speed and experience" to the team. Based on this, I have absolutely no clue who will join our team next... but I can say he'll be slow and useless, despite Homer's praising of his "speed and leadership." ](*,)

Sounds kind of like a certain team that Minty supports.... ;)
