Too easy to build a dynasty?

Hey all; So I have been playing EHM07 and EA for decades now and I have come to a sad conclusion, it is much too easy to build a Stanley Cup winning franchise. In each of the cases below I took a team that finished near 30th and within a few years made them cup winners:

Toronto Maple Leafs: GM 17-18 to 31-32 won the cup 11 times in 14 years (almost all in a row). Finally quit the Leafs to join the next team which fired their GM and were near last in the league:

NY Rangers: GM 32-33 to 43-44 won the cup 5 times in 11 years, all in a row (was in playoffs all but the first year). Got bored and when 30th place Pittsburgh need a new GM I took the job. That year, we finished 30th as I joined in March. The next year with no free agents signings and only bringing up AHL prospects we moved to 12th overall. The next year with a single FA signing, Jevon Roux, I won the cup.

Penguins: GM 44-45 to 46-47 won the cup 1 time in 2 years.

I use my own tactics and set my own lines but do not coach the games. So either I have a magical touch or the game is a bit on the easy side. I think I am going to start a new career and only have my coach do all tactics and such, and I will just look for talent. So I tried FHM5 demo, and while I like parts of it I found it didn't hold my interest like EHM, but I sure do wish EHM was harder to dominate.

Tactics are broken in this game. Hopefully some tweaking will have been done for 1.5.

Most of the time I set myself some rules to make it harder. If not, yeah it can be quite easy. My saves that I enjoyed the most were the ones where I was starting in the junior leagues. The challenge is way better down there IMO.

I have also found that setting practice to RESTING will increase my goals in the game to 5+ per game, I reported this as a bug but never heard anything on it. IT is too bad that the game only has spare time development, it dominates FHM but with so many "tricks" and such I can see finally hanging up my skates.

The gap between EHM and FHM is shrinking fast. Both games have issues but more work is being done quicker on FHM. I'm on the verge of making the transition. I didn't dislike FHM 5.

Which isn't suprising given the fact that FHM is supported by whole OOTP company while EHM is, unfortunaetly, one man job.

Looking at Steam reviews: FHM3 is 53% positive, FHM4 is 60% positive, and the most recent FHM5 is rated 46% positive (EHM has an 84% positive)

Is that this post? https://community.sigames.com/topic/405 ... -practice/

It notes "I don't think this is a bug but my team just playing well, but I posted at the Blue Line and it was suggested I let you take a look" - maybe Riz agreed it's not a bug, or maybe a fix was made (an update hasn't been released since the bug report)

P.S. The other thing that comes to mind is does player development suffer if the player never practices?

Yes, that is my post. I did not notice any drop in player skills, I think them playing every other day takes care of that. I do put guys who hardly play to "FRINGE" setting, which is all settings at intensive.

I am not sure what it is about FHM5 that doesn't peak my interest, perhaps it is the plain ugly screens while EHM has the stadium background. It also sort of just felt like a data base calculator to me, while EHM seems more like a sim. If EHM did not exist then of course FHM would be the go too.

I read somewhere, although it was for EHM 2007, that if any category in player practice is set on "easy" attributes connected to that category will drop. Don't know if it is the case in EHM 1.

Try some of the Euro leagues for a change?

I took over the Coyotes the first year and finished first in the west and first overall in scoring. I coached every regular season game, but let Tocchet take over the playoffs and lost in the first round ](*,)

The next year Rutherford retired, so i took over the Pens. I coached every game the first two years and won the cup, so i figured I'd let the head coach (I hired Cooper after he was sacked by TB) coach all the games the third year while I sit back and be GM . Ended up finishing 5th in the east that year, only clinching a playoff spot the final week. Lost in the second round. I took over coaching all games after that year and won two cups in a row. Bottom line for me is that when i coach the team, we win (while my coach gets the Jack Adams trophy  ), whereas if i let the HC coach, we under perform, guys get hurt, etc. I suppose if i want the challenge of being only the GM, I'd take over an impatient franchise like Montreal and just let my coach do the coaching and see what happens (which i may end up doing)

Edit: Something i have noticed, going all the way back to the 07 versions....if I play with fast forward speed I could win about 70-75 games a year. For some reason, the game seems to delight in letting my teams win with scores like '10-2' and '11-3' when i do that. Therefore, for the sake of realism, I avoid that like the plague
