How to move an existing game to another PC?

Post by TurboJ » Sat Aug 03, 2019 11:40 am

*Help needed, please if you can, take the time to help me out - will appreciate it*

So my PC died on me but I can still access the hard drives (fingers crossed).

I'm in the middle of a playthrough and I have the possibility of continuing the savegame on a different PC.

My question is what are all the files and folders I need to copy/paste into the new game install. I have already installed Steam and the base game along with my Steam mod subscriptions.

Naturally I know I need to copy the savegame files, that's a no-brainer. But what other game files are affected by my 12-year long career game?
Do I need to copy/paste the main database file? Steam automatically installed the current TBL roster database on the new install, but my existing savegame is a modified TBL 10.3

So, I would greatly appreciate if one of you could tell me what are all the files/folders I need to move onto the new system so as not to break the savegame and to be able to continue the career.

Thank you so much for your help!

All you need is the single save game file (in Documents -> Sports Interactive -> EHM -> games)

Thanks for the reply! Sorry for my delay in commenting. It took a while to have my new system running. So, somehow the savegame file includes the database information then? Does it matter that I used a modified database file in creating these savegames? I.e. the TBL10.3 rosters modified by the 'prospect generator'. And, IIRC the savegame folder includes many subfolders, but I guess there is no harm if I copy/paste all of these into the new game folder just in case?

And thanks again for your help!!

In the path "Documents -> Sports Interactive -> EHM -> games" the EHM folder has subfolders, but the games folder does not (it only contains saved games)

When I've moved a saved game from one computer to another I've just copied/pasted the saved game, never any of the other folders

The database is effectively copied into the saved game when you first start your new save game. So the saved game is totally independent from the database as soon as you first start your saved game.

How to move an existing game to another PC?

Thanks guys.

I got the game running successfully after copying all the manual mods along with those savegames. Just one thing wrong; some of my scouts are not showing up on my "scouting" menus. I'm not sure if these are generated scouts, or perhaps they are even ones from the 'prospect generator'. I'll see if they reappear once their current scouting assignments are done.

This problem resolved itself after simming a couple of weeks forward. Scouts returned to the menu and all functionality was restored. Now the only remaining issue is cosmetic only; the NHL awards player name history is mixed up. Not having any effects on gameplay, but it's interesting in how this takes place. The award history listings show former winners from my team with the correct first name but a different surname. Insignificant but interesting.
