So first, thanks for all the hard work going into those rosters, tha tstill make me sink so many hours into this game after years. But now had a longer time away from the game. Saw that TBL rosters are now totally based on Pivot. Not so sold on this one, because i think players ar ejust so good always here its hard to apprechiate the specialties of a player when all seem so great. Its hard to determine strenghts really or create players that seem uniwue in their skillset with all being so good across the board. Its a design choice i never liked, i will have to see how it plays out with the new players from drafts over the long run. That being said i went with TBL over Pivot still because i like start of season rosters.
Apart from the general "issue" of jsut too much quality overall for ME , i stumbled upon something that really totally unbalanced everything for me, and that is the abundanc eof awesome defenders among the already über talented players. In Year 2 it seems Stars are crowding the Free agent ranks well into the season and never get signed because of the abundance of talent. Is that a deliberate design choice? Because at the moment it spoils the rest of "realism" for me. Its not that you cant exploit the game in other ways but, just having to trade your good defenders for godd forwards all the time is a little bit unsatisfying.
How is the general opinion or the stance of developers on these imbalancs, i mean there so much work going into this prime product, am i the only one finding it a bit strange that is is made so much worse then by rather easy to fix things.

That being said, thanks to everyone contributing to this great work.

P.S Also if it helps anyone a bit, i had a crash because of Russian formation of leagues in season 3 (looks like a relegaton issue), but read later i shouldnt select all those leagues. So wanted to start with NHL and AHL only. But always had an nstant crash to Desktop when loading up the leagues. So NHL only works atm.

Why are those guys so good.

I always thought EHM07s rosters were a bit too much quality in the beginning, but I always think each database 'mellows out' after a bit.

Speaking specifically to the top-tier of the CA scale (mostly NHL focused), we use the CA tiers as defined in the TBL wiki, i don't try not move off of those:

Forwards
200 - Generational (Once in a decade historical talent)
190 - Superstar (Top 5 player in league)
180 - Franchise (Consistent All-Star)
170 - 1st liner
160 - 1st/2nd liner
150 - 2nd liner
140 - 2nd/3rd liner
130 - 3rd liner
120 - 3rd/4th liner
110 - 4th liner
100 - 4th liner/AHLer
90 - AHL
80 - ECHL

Goalies
200-190 - Generational (Once in a decade historical talent)
180-170 - #1 Goalie (Consistent All-Star)
160-150 - 1A Goalie
140-130 - 1B Goalie
120-110 - Backup
100-90 - AHL
80 - ECHL

Defense
200 - Generational (Once in a decade historical talent)
190 - Superstar (Top 5 player in league)
170-180 - Franchise (1-2 D)(Consistent All-Star)
160-170 - Top-End (2-3 D)
150-160 - #3-4 D
130-140 - #4-5 D
120-130 - #6-7 D
110-120 - AHLer
100-110 - ECHLer

-2 Potential will be between 10-40
-3 Potential will be between 30-60
-4 Potential will be between 50-80
-5 Potential will be between 70-100
-6 Potential will be between 90-120
-7 Potential will be between 110-140 (quite rare – a good prospect with a decent chance of being a regular NHL player)
-8 Potential will be between 130-160 (rare – a top prospect with a good chance of being a talented NHL player)
-9 Potential will be between 150-180 (very rare – a top 10 prospect who is considered a can’t miss NHL talent)
-10 Potential will be between 170-200 (extremely rare – the top player available in a draft, but not every year)
-11 Potential will be between 20-80 (intended for very young, hard-to-predict players)
-12 Potential will be between 40-100 (intended for very young, hard-to-predict players)
-13 Potential will be between 60-130 (intended for very young, hard-to-predict players)
-14 Potential will be between 90-160 (intended for very young, hard-to-predict players)
-15 Potential will be between 110-190 (intended for very young, hard-to-predict players)

Historically TBL has skewed a little lower and more conservative then that, and for a season or two had their own scale entirely. I try to match to the game where I can, but the scouting report (and stars) don't line up entirely every single time. I can scout a 150 CA forward by 6 different scouts with similar skill sets and get slightly different reads (2nd liner, 1st liner etc). Defencemen specifically skew higher then forwards (+10 CA points per tier usually), this is a game engine thing AFAIK. Something I plan on level-setting with Riz before the 1.5 patch comes out, we want to validate the tiering is aligned to the game expectations relative to club/competition reputation for all positions.
