Bonuses and the salary cap

Hello!
I recently took a job managing an NHL team, which I haven't done in 5-6 years (maybe more) and I'm surprised by the number of players that have really high performance bonuses. If I'm not mistaken they aren't allowed for most players in the NHL, only for entry level players and players 35+ years old, but every player appears to have them.
Some players have over $1 million in bonuses that they could hit, that's a significant amount and I'm wondering how it impacts the salary cap. If he hits the bonus will it impact my cap this year or if I'm close/at the cap limit will it impact me next season?
**Apologies if this has been asked, I did a search and looked back through the past 5 pages on the forum and couldn't find anything**
