7 vs 24-day IR

When I have an injured player I always put them on the 7-day IR... no matter how long they are going to be out.
Is there any advantage to putting them on the 24-day IR instead?
Thanks!

In the NHL it should reduce the players pro-rated salary cap hit for the days he is out on 24-day IR (the equivalent of LTIR).

Thanks for the reply... I didn't realize the salary cap hit was pro-rated.
I thought players on IR didn't count against the salary cap when on IR... and then fully counted (not pro-rated) once they came off.
