Coach's attributes

Has anyone ever seen a coaches attributes increase?
As a test I found a coach with 200 potential. He had only 6 ability.
I made him my coach in the AHL.
He had to use my tactics and he handled the practice.
The team won 75 games, scored 430 goals and won the Calder Cup.
This coach went from 6 ability to 7 and none of attributes moved an inch.
What gives?
I like the idea of giving a young coach a job but he needs to improve.
Are all these coaches frozen?
His horrible attributes certainly made no impact in a negative way for the team.
