I am a player of gm based games, I recall EHM sometime ago but never followed through. However, recently I came across it again and was wondering if the game and following is still strong. How difficult is it to get going with this game? How involved to get up and running? Any guides out there?

Yes there is still a decent following of the game and certainly the rosters remain actively developed. Hopefully there will be a future game patch but progress on this is slow due to lack of time.

I'd highly recommend reading this guide as it hopefully explains a lot but of course let me know if you have any questions: https://www.ehmtheblueline.com/site/gui ... manager-1/

Ok, so following the guide, I should be able to download the game from Steam, then if I choose, upload the current rosters and play? I don't have to be the biggest techy to make this run correctly? LOL

Reason I want to be sure, I know Franchise Hockey Manager is out there, and while I have tried it in the past, wasn't the biggest fan. I have read this game has so much to offer, but am concerned that it has been out of production for some time now.

Yes, the steam workshop makes it quite easy to download rosters or databases depending on your liking. That as well goes for other updates such as logos, player profile pictures and more. Most things from the steam workshop plus additional programs can be also found here in the forum.

OK, trying to figure out which way to go, EHM or Franchise Hockey Manager. Like the idea of being in GM mode, working salaries etc. Any opinions out there?

You'll probably find a slight tendency towards EHM in a mostly EHM forum. :-D In all seriousness I think FHM is easier to get into and has a slight advantage in the interface for newcomers. For example Star-Ratings and Numbers to see a players ability or potential. Plus a quite detailed History-Mode where you can re-play from whatever season you want if that is your thing.

EHM has a more in depth managing aspect with a lot more manual evalution of player ratings and scouting reports and a much more dedicated player base that creates and updates databases very regularily or uploads facepacks, logopack and other mods. It also feels larger in scale and offers more variety in the number of leagues you can compete in.

Appreciate you taking the time to share...EHM have the salary structure and cap?

Looks like I got the game downloaded, downloaded the add-ons through steam, but I do not seem to see the option to start 2023 season despite the rosters being installed?

Did you upgrade to the newest beta patch? The newest rosters require an update. Steam does not automatically apply the beta patch, you need to do that manually.

I was able to take care of the beta patch, it appears all is up and running...now to figure this game out. There is a lot to it for a newbie. All I've done so far is click the continue button to move along to get to some game action. Have coach taking care of all training, lines and tactics right now till I learn some of this.

Any suggestions to point me in the right direction are welcome. Thank you all who have offered suggesetions and advice.

You are doing great so far. =D> Below is a landing page that's helps you get started. The Guides for 2005 and 2007 game mechanics (unfortunately ;) ) still hold up quite well. The other links are discussions that also provide guides to the respective topic. Learning EHM means reading EHM. A lot of reading. Hope your boss doesn't mind! :-D

I'd suggest exactly the way you are going right now. Let the Head Coach take care of tactics and practice and worry about players (perhaps even lines once you know how to identify playing roles through scouting) and staff first to ease your way in. From experience after the first season when you go through the draft and renew contracts is the time where the game picks up speed and you get to know the team and it's needs best. That's why I added scouting as the first link. It's also by far the most fun to find diamonds in the rough,

Practice is the easiest to master, because thanks to dedicated researchers here, there are only a handful of realistic options anyways. I use the "MM Nor" approach which is explained in detail in the thread below. Practice can also be considered the first thing you should take over.

Lastly is tactics, which I usually leave with the Head Coach anyways to keep it more realistic. I only make sure to have complementing player roles in my lines. I also like to set up the lines espacially when I try to develope players. If you want to take matters in your own hands, the thread below is for you. The forum also has a Guide labled something like "EHM 2007 Tactics Guide". It explains every slider and box, team or individual tactic in detail. Tactics are by far the most overwhelming aspect in my opinion. It's the last thing I would get into if you're not an absolute sucker for tactics! ;)

Yes, plenty to read is right. How about any links about roster management and understanding things such as a player you have rights to is offered a contract by a Swedish League?

Can you sim more than one day at a time when you click continue?

You can go on vacation by clicking on the top menu, that appears after clicking your own name, to simulate more than one day at a time, but decisions will be made by your assistant during that time, so it is not advisable to do so during the season. I myself use it only during the summer, when nothing crucial is going on.
