Trade Rumors...

To start with, no, it's not a typo - we put U's in a lot of places that you Yankees don't. You say rumors, I say rumours...
Anyway, I thought we could get a thread going to talk about trade rumours, seeing as the deadline is fast approaching and there are a few teams who WILL be tearing up their rosters and re-building following this season (*cough, Philly, cough*).
I'll start:
I read that Montreal are thinking about dealing Samsonov, Aebischer and Rivet to Philly for Esche and Pitkanen. This seems more than a little far fetched to me. I'm sure Philly would love to unload Esche, but Pitkanen, I can't believe they'd be ready to give up on him. To trade Pitkanen and replace him with an older, slower Rivet is unwise considering old and slow is Philly's problem to begin with.
Now, from Montreal's standpoint, I'd do this trade in a minute. I would say Gainey made a mistake signing Samsonov, he just hasn't gelled in any role the Habs have tried so far. Sure, it would suck to lose him up front, but you'd also be losing his 3.5/yr. Use that extra money and deal Esche and a few prospects for, I don't know, say.....Doan?
That's what I'm talking about.
Thoughts?
Cheers.

My thoughts are that until they make the proposed changes regarding "dead money" we won't see any trades of import.

Sounds to be a good deal for the Habs and a really bad one for Philly.
Minty: what is this "dead money" you're talking about? I don't really understand
Edit: 800th post!

I've been hearing rumors of Philly trading Pitkanen for quite a while now and now of them make sense. He's struggled a bit this year but so has the rest of the team. These rumors are mostly fans (or sportswriters) of other teams dreaming.
I've been hearing a lot of rumors about the Bruins dealing Brad Stuart if they can't get him resigned by the trade deadline and if they're out of playoff contention. He's supposed to be one of (if not THE) hottest deadline commodity. The Bruins have said repeatedly that they want to keep him. The Bruins GM was on the radio today and spoke very highly of Brad Stuart but said his agent asked that they not discuss the contract negotiations in public, so he's not.
One of the Brad Stuart trade rumors that I've been hearing a lot is Stuart to Edmonton (I guess their GM covets him). The names I've heard coming in return are Lupul and Torres, plus a pick. There is supposed to be quite the potential for a team to overpay for him because so many teams want him. I'm not sure I want to see him go but if he doesn't want to resign, I'd like to see them deal him. Even if the Bruins look like they're going to make the playoffs, realistically they've got no chance of going far. Dealing him for some young talent and picks would be a good idea.

I wouldn't be so quick on us(Philly) making a move, let alone a move to actually fix the team. We still have the GM who thinks Fedoruk was an addition of speed and leadership... and thinks that we need a veteran d-man despite having no hope for a playoff spot.

The biggest rumour out here is Foppa....Foppa to SJ (WHAT?? Marleau, Thornton and a hopefully healthy Foppa...who cares about Pronger/Lidstromoops menat Niedermeyer), Montreal, the Rangers, Anaheim (in b/c of SJ rumour), Colorado, Vancouver, Calgary. All of these teams are apparently in the running, says McGuire. Vancouver especially according to him on the radio this AM. Deal would involve Bulis and/or Chouinard, Corey Schneider or Luc Bourdon and a 1st. Apparently, a player, a prospect and a 1st will be the winning bid, with Foppa agreeing that if he is healthy he would return to Philly next season a la Weight/Recchi.
Apparently though, rumor mills do not factor in cap space. Canucks would (I think) have to move more than 2/3 Bulis salary to afford 1/3 Foppa.
Huge risk....with prospects and Forsberg's health. But hell..>Foppa Naslund Morrison and then Sedin-Sedin---flavor of the month. Not bad with Luongo in net.

For the record, Forsberg and Näslund suck together nowadays. Has been seen during international competitions several times... I don't even think Forsberg would waive his NTC to go to Vancouver.

Forsberg and Naslund have sucked together yes. No doubt they have at times. But they are friends. In no way do I mean that I think Foppa is coming to Vancouver. IN fact when I first heard the rumour about Vancouver I laughed hysterically. To me, no hope in hell. Course I laughed about Luongo-Bertuzzi too. Thought not even Keenan could be that dumb. Forsberg waiving a no trade for the Canucks..I hardly see it happening. But stranger things have happened.

I know it didn't work out, but the one I always think about that would have been looked back on as one of the most brilliant moves ever was when Kariya and Selanne both agreed to cut-rate deals to play together in Colorado, so maybe a Fors-Nas compromise isn't so out of the question either as there's some precedent to it even.
