How should we update the rosters? Pre-game or saved game?

Hey, i just recently installed the 3.0.4 patch. Now, the rosters havent been updated.

How do i get the most recent roster update? Because everytime i install the new patches, the rosters are never updated.

Thanks

The game starts at the beginning of the 06-07 season, so the rosters are the ones at the start of the season, due to licensing issues.

Anyhow, i don't know if updated rosters exist :dunno:

I haven't heard about any updated rosters - not that I'd really be interested if there was.

The problem with updated rosters is that since the game would be starting out at the beginning of the season, many teams would be over the cap. For example Detroit and Nashville would be over since the full amount of Forsberg's and Bertuzzi's salary would count against their team's cap, putting them well over the limit.

Not sure it belongs to this thread, but it was the closest I was able to find. After almost 5 years and thousands of trades in a game, Nhl rosters look completely like a "One Big Mess". I'd like to come back to the origins in my current db, actually to bring back Marleau to SJ, Blake to LA, Nytti to Philly and that sort of thing. How can I do that (if it possible) :-? ?

there are currently a few people workning on updates for the rosters in the NHL, AHL, CHL, OHL, QMJHL, and WHL, it is due to be released at the start of the 07-08 season, the rosters will be from the opening nights of each league

Just watch how the rosters were in real life 5 years ago, and how they are now, thousands of trades later. 5 years ago, Thornton was still in Boston, Yzerman was still playing, as for Lemieux, Stevens, and many others, Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, etc weren't in the league, Forsberg was in Colorado, Kipper was unknown with the Sharks (or still in europe, i don't remember), etc etc etc...

So yeah, rosters change a lot in 5 years in EHM. But it changes the same way in real life, so there's no issue there ;)

if we take the updates year by year, day by day, trade by trade, it shouldnt be too much of a problem

Sort of like the 1991 database?

There's a project I could consider doing if I had any time whatsoever.

If I were to do it, it wouldn't be by myself that's for sure.

It would be great a old database using a old calendar.
Is possible only to change the actual nhl calendar for a old one (like 1998)?

Nope, unfortunately you can't change the start date in EHM. It's been hardcoded in by the SI guys because of licensing requirements. We'd all love it if it could be modified but unfortunately, it's out of the question. The big roster update that they're doing for next season will still have the current start date that the game uses now.

If I get it correctly that would mean to start all over again including my own team, right? And what I'm looking for is just some editing my existing game in 2012 (I would like to move some players to the place they belong, IMHO).
If that possible for a ordinary user, not a programmer? :-k

Why exactly would you want to do that?

Wouldn't you have to move the players from your team back to their old teams too?

Or are you just going to keep them so you are the best team in the league again.

Players get traded and signed throughout their careers, why would you artificially put them back?

If you just start over then everyone will be back in their default place.

Crocker--Only way to do that would be to take control of 16 GMS make all the trades involving them...then go and do the same with the other 14 after you retire the first 16. Cept that would leave a crapload of teams without a GM.

Also...in 2012 I am betting there are quite a few retired guys..so you ain't gonna be able to get it quite right in an already started game.

Not sure if the saved game editor would work. but it might.

Thank you guys, I really appreciate your help. After all, I didn't know it would be that complicated. :-k I think I'll put my sentimentality aside this time , the result doesn't worth my efforts. :-D Probably, I'll wait for the updated rosters in September. :-D

The saved game editor could well do what you require

do you want to make it so that the start of the year is correct, and so are the players, so you could sim the first for year for example, start from 2008 and still have people like pitkanen on the oilers, and bertuzzi on the ducks, and so that the draft is done? if that is what u want, the save game editor like archie said is the best way to do this, im not too advanced with this... but ill have a look none the less, just to see if i can work it out and if it can actually be done

Getzlaf15: Thank you, that would be nice. Besides editing wages cup and players' attributes, I'm not that advanced with the editor too :-) . But if it comes to dealing with codes or something, I'm not so sure it worth the trouble. Probably, it's better to wait for the updated rosters in September. :-D

i have a problem, i dont have your database, so i cant change yours.

but i have an idea, if i use the TBL:DB, sim a year, and then edit the work using the save game editor, cud i add that game to the downloads section, so that people wud be able to (in effect) start my save game, and hav an updated 2008 teams roster, with drafts an all,

for the drafts i cud take control of all 30 teams and draft the players as they were chosen in real life, so the draft is correct as well, is this possible or not? thanks alot

getzlaf: possible?...maybe...seems yes, at first sight. But be warned it's hell of a long work to do! And then, you'll face a little problem with the general managers... If you take control of all the teams, once you retire from those teams, they wouldn't have the right GM. In fact, they wouldn't have any GM at all. Last problem that pops to my mind is the choice of the team. If you use a saved game, how do we choose which team we'll play with? Unless you make 30 different versions of it, with 30 different extra_config files to put the GMs back to their right... But then comes the problem of hosting 30 big files on the server... Unless you have just one version with all teams controlled and we then have to manually disable 29 GMs and hope the right extra_config file works well...

So, in theory, it is possible. But you'd better have tons of free time, a high patience, and a high determination to accomplish such a big project

I don't want to discourage you, just warn you a bit about those issues ;)

I am also not sure. A saved game would be a huge file. This is what we have been working on the DBase to avoid. So for now, I would say hold off, and lets wait til the updated rosters come out until the 2007-08 season starts.

I love the enthusiasm you guys have. But a saved game would be hellacious. Lets just try and be patient. The updated rosters will come. :-D

Same as Shadd --I mean if you really, really want to do it go ahead. But I think, it would be best to wait myself.

sure thang, ill wait to see if any roster updates come out,

thanks for all your help, i see the problems with it, but if people were prepared to sacrifice some stuff for the fact that teams would have correct rosters and drafts, its up to them, ill get my thinkin head on to try to get round these problems, for the future, i wont start this just yet, thanks
