No one is signing Kyle Turris...

So I traded up in the draft and grabbed Kyle Turris at 15th overall. Obviously, he was playing in the BCHL with Burnaby at the time, but had 'Wants to play US college hockey' listed under 'Future'. I'm currently in April, 2008, but there is still no arranged transfer to the NCAA. Will he ever go to college or should I just sign him and put him in the WHL for the '08-'09 season?

He didn't seem that great in my current game. My scouts are comparing him to a better version of Serge Payer. Despite that, he's ranked #52 in the draft. I'm currently in January of 2007 and he's got a transfer agreement with Michigan Tech. The only reason I can think of for that not happening in your game is that maybe he got injured or something and missed his shot? Anyhow, if you want him to play at a more challenging level, go ahead and sign him. What can it hurt? I think CHL teams develop their players better in this game than the NCAA anyhow.

I'm in 2017, and Turis is a star getting 100 points every seasons.

Hmmm... maybe it's just the random potential factor in my game that's not making him look like much?

In my several games Turris has gone both ways...boom and bust. I have met the kid personally and he should be a boom every time in this game...cause in real life he is a huge boom! Just my usual humble, or not so humble opinion.

In real life, isn't he expected to be a top 5 pick?

Yeah. Some have him as high as 1. Many Hawks fans like him over Kane. But Philly fans also likey.

Anyway in the game...he is always boom or bust.

Yes, it seems like Philly are really high on Kyle Turris.

BTW, what's his name in a game?
I'm in 2011 and I don't have a guy with such a name. :dunno: I'm using a normal database, not unfaked one. :-D

I am 99.9% sure he is Kyle Turris in the game..so do not know what happened in yours. He is part of the first draft (2007)

I searched 2007 draft carefully. Kane,Voracek,Cherepanov,Hamill,Petrecki,Esposito,Sutter are all in there...Kyle Turris isn't. Strange things happens!

Hmmm... maybe he was faked? Is it possible that the league he's playing in at the start of the game wasn't one of the ones that SI got a license for?

I am sure he is not faked. Without checking, I know I drafted him twice without using any edited database. Burnaby Express--BCHL. Anyway, it may just be that in Crocker's game the random potential turned out to be potential to do something else for a living... :dunno:

He's not faked on my current game with the original db

Croker: did you search him with the "search engine"? Or just had a look in the draft ranked players? Like already mentionned, he's boom or bust in the game, so he may not be ranked in your game, or ranked very low...:dunno:

I know he's in my game, because I just drafted him in the 2nd or 3rd round.

Though, he was predicted by all my scouts to be a 3rd liner. So my guess for Crocker's case would be that he has the same low potential, and as a result wasn't being signed - then decided to retire.

Thanks, guys. Sure I did that (the "search engine"). He wasn't there in 2007 (under players' name "Turris") I checked him twice, just before the draft has started and the search result was dead empty. It seems like this one is a case of another bust there... 8-) ...and... according to Batdad, in my game Mr.Turris has decided to do something else for a living...
Very interesting! :-D

He has -14 potential in the original database, which makes him anywhere from 90 to 160.

It might be, that he only got a potential in the low 90's (ECHL level) in your game, and then decided to retire to do something else with his life. I have seen it with other young players in the game.

Also, he might have gotten a big injury, which also sometimes makes players retire.

That is the only two things I can think of - he is definately in the original database, I just checked with the editor.

Turris isn't in my game either, he must not be ranked.

Here's a screenshot of him in my game, looking good prospect ! he was drafted #96 (4th round) ! nobody saw this talent !

I have the 1.4 version of TBL roster of 2008 but no matter, they didn'T touch players attributes...

I drafted him in the Challenge 10 right now he is doing well in San Antonio, i was looking at him as a possible core player for my next season. his one problem he seems to get injured alot.

He's one of those guys with random potential. He really varies from game to game. One person will have a game where he is great. In another person's game he'll struggle to make it in the AHL.

Another example is Steven Stamkos (who is a -15 in the original database, if I'm not mistaken). In one of my saves, he's a 500 career goal scorer who gets 90-110 points every season since his early 20's. Another game, Stamkos and Patrick Kane play togheter in Denmark.

The two franchises I've drafted Turris he's been a bust, once I got him in the third round.
I've found that Kane and VanRiemsdyk are the same in that manner.

I drafted Stamkos 3rd overall, and he turned out to be a complete bust. With his second NHL club, he's collected only 34 points (9g, 25a) and a -17 rating in 84 NHL games (over 3 seasons) and is currently rotting in Worcester.

I drafted him in the 4th round just before he went to Boston College. He played a couple of seasons there, a few seasons in the AHL for me after that with a rating of 7.59 at his peak. Let him go as he wasn't good enough for the big team and he's been playing in the Finnish SM League for the past 5 seasons.
So yeah, a bust. If you can't make it in the NHL and have to play pro over there you've disappointed everyone.
