Grey players on my DEL team

I started a new career game a little bit ago, and I managed to get a job with Hamburg of the DEL. However, there's one thing that's confusing me, and discouraging me from playing that game. The problem is that my team is being given a handful of greys(the fake players), and I have no idea why. They're all very young players, around 19-20 years of age, and they're all 'home-grown.' The only thing I could think of is that I wasn't complying with the "minimum of 4 home-grown players, 24 or younger" rule, but I counted and I am in compliance with it. I tried to ignore them and just focus on my real team, but then I noticed that these fake players are getting spots in my line-up, which is dousing the realism for me.

Anyone able to shed some light on this one?

Cheers.

Are any of your (minimum 4) under 25 year old german players away on international duty? Injured?

Are you trying to dress more than 11 non-german players?

That is all I can think of :-?

Seems pretty wierd :dunno:

Do you make your own lines and manage the games by yourself? If yes, that shouldn't occur :-k

How many players do you have in your roster? You should be allowed fake players if you're a bit short on depth according to the league standards. It should also be the issues mentionned by ElQuapo aswell.

Do you have a screenshot of your roster? Otherwise, I can't think of anything else, either... although the DEL does have many funny rules and regulations ;)

That is something that I have had happen to me as well. You might be within the rules for that league, but are those players for certain positions? Such as you only have LW and RW on the team and no C to play.

If so, then you might want to go and sign some players to cover each position. I know if you don't, then game will put grey players in there to cover that sort of thing or atleast in my game it did that.

Here's a screenshot of my roster. The age rule requires a minimum of 4 home-grown players 25 or younger, and as you can see in red, I'm well clear of that requirement.

Also, there are four more greys that didn't fit in the window(all 20 years or younger). And I don't think they're there for positional reasons, since two of the greys are goalkeepers - giving me a total of five 'keepers.

And I'm right in the foreigner limit as well. I'm allowed 12 on my roster, with 11 dressed.

P.S. Shadd, I don't coach my games, or set line-ups. So it's the coach that's using the greys(which is the main reason I don't like them on my roster. If they weren't being used, I could just ignore them).

Just checked the DEL rosters in my career game.

About half the teams have loads of these players, while the rest have none - and there does not seem to be any pattern as to why they have them. Very wierd :dunno:

BTW - B.Stinson :
Where did you get those awesome "HG", "Fgn" and flag icons? They look great.

The player info icons are ones I made a little while ago. You can download them Here.

As for the flags - someone made those for Football Manager and I really like 'em, so I brought them over to EHM. They can be found Here. *These were made for FM, and some countries have different abbreviations than in EHM, so you'll have to correct those two or three file names. I know two are Latvia and Slovenia, and there may be another but I forget.

EDIT: By the way, thanks for checking up on the greys. I guess they're just one of those things we'll have to live with. ;)

UPDATE EDIT: Just made an interesting little discovery. I decided to check the DEL within my other game(not the career one where I'm in the DEL), and it turns out that I too am seeing some teams with a nice roster, and some with a load of greys. Then I noticed that all the teams who have greys are the teams who have taken the foreigner limit to the permitted maximum of 12. And all the teams who had nice rosters were all the teams who had at least one less foreigner than the rules allowed(11 or less foreigners). So, if this isn't just a huge coincidence, then it appears that greys are given to any roster who has maxed out the foreigner limit... which would be the case with my team.

Just checked my game. The exact same is the case. Nice find

Maybe the AI has a hard time not trying to buy foreign players, and then to make them stop, the squad is increased when they have 12 to make the AI think it has many players and therefore should not sign more. I remember a bug in the old CM, where clubs would sign players only to have the transfer not go through because they already had reached the foreigner limit - which was annoying if you had just negotiated the transfer etc. This could be a way of "patching" that bug. Anyway, this is just speculation on my part - but it could be an explanation :dunno:

Good hypothesis, ElQuapo  Only Riz or Graeme should confirm or deny this, but that may be the explanation...
