EHM The Blue Line

I just made another Excel spreadsheet. This one is for tracking the progression of your players' attributes. There are separate sheets for skaters and goalies, each has 5 entry sheets and 1 comparison sheet. You enter in your players' starting data on sheet 1 at the start of the season. Then at four other times (I think every 20 games is a good measure), you enter the attributes again on the sheets. The players' names and other info will carry over from the previous sheet. At any time, you can look at the Comparison sheet to see how the players' attributed have progressed (or regressed). Numbers that have gone up will show up in green. Ones that have gone down will show up in red.

Yesterday I plugged in the attributes for all my players in the Challenge. I included the guys on my roster, most of my farm team (I left off all the older scrubs that will never go beyond the AHL), and any prospects that I thought have even a remote chance of being minor leaguers. Now I've just got to wait until around the 20 game mark and I'll plug them in again so I can compare.

It should be good for identifying problem areas that a player needs more training in. Plus, it's nice to see how much better your prospects have gotten instead of just seeing that it has gone up but not by how much.

I just logged my 2nd page of attributes earlier today, so I could see the spreadsheet put to use. I was surprised to see that several of my players went "red" on a couple of defensive attributes. They had been assigned to a defensive training program for most of the time between logging the two sets of attributes, so that's telling me that they're either been training on defense too much, their morale is effecting them, or the coaches I've got assigned to defensive aren't doing well. I'll have to look into this! Lots of green though. It'll be interesting to track my younger players' growth.

I spotted one mistake I made formatting. The 1 segment spot for one of attributes on the player comparison sheet turns green as soon as you put numbers in. It shouldn't. The first segment is always a starting point and should stay black. I'll fix that but I'd like to see if there are any other changes that need to be made first. Is anyone running into any problems? Have any suggestions? Ways to make it better or things you'd like to see done differently? I appreciate any feedback you can give me.

Not yet. I'm waiting to see if there is anything else that needs fixing before I go through the process of re-uploading it and getting it re-approved.

It's totally usable in it's current state though. The one problem was that one attribute's first column (the starting figure) goes green when you first type numbers in. That column should always be in a black font. So it's really not that big of a deal for the time being. You'll easily spot that column and know what it is. It's columns 2-5 for each attribute that you really need to pay attention to.

Is there a way to put attributes fast into the spreadsheet?

I mean, i can't play in windowed mode, so i have to use the Alt+Tab command to switch from the game, enter the attributes in the spreadsheet, go back in the game, etc. Long and painfull. Other possibility is to write all the attributes on a paper and then enter them in the spreadsheet. Long and painfull.

So if there's a faster way, i'd love it! Else...well...pen and paper

Unfortunately, there is no way to get the numbers from EHM quickly. This is by design. The folks at SI did not want people to be able to export the player attributes because they could steal their database work. People have been asking for this for ages and they always said no.

Sorry, it's either Alt-Tab or pen & paper for you, Shadd. Why can't you play windowed? It's actually quite easy (and doesn't take TOO long) to fill the spreadsheet in when you're windowed.

As for the windowed mode, it's about the resolution of the screen or something like that. I think there's a thread about it somewhere on the site (or was it at SI's? ) so i'll perform a search to see if i find a solution. Would be great, as i'm sure it's really faster to fill the spreadsheet in windowed mode

It's pretty easy to solve yourself. (Step by Step based on Excel)
1. Open File (duh)
2. Go to Skaters Comparison tab
3. Select the entire Strength 1 row (labeled AD)
4. Go to Format-Conditional Formating
5. Change Both Condition 1 and Condition 2 to "Cell value is" and "between"
6. Delete whatever is in the third option.
7. Click the "Format" button.
8. Change color to automatic and click "Okay"
9. Click Okay again.

This is how I fixed it for myself. If anyone has any trouble contact someone whos worked with excel before (cause im clueless )

As for suggestions... I'm not really sure. I'd personally like to see a longer comparison (I do mine at 1 per season but i'd like to do it at beginning, mid, and end for around 4-5 years)

Good Idea to set this up Bruins, the only way i could do it before, was in my head, and its gettin crammed, now i have this, i think ill try the 1-100 attribute range, now i can remember them all, thanks alot

Thanks for sharing that with everyone, Saranis. I've had a serious case of ADD lately and I really couldn't focus enough to explain it.

As for your suggestion... it's actually something I had contemplated but ultimately decided against. Even with 5 columns for each stat it's getting a bit unwieldy. You know what I mean? Scrolling so much to see everything gets a bit much. My suggestion is it you want to keep your comparison going beyond the 5 periods (whether they be 20 game segments or years) is to copy the last (#5) sheet of data and copy it into sheet 1 of a new copy of the file.

Thats what I'll probably do, I've noticed it gets a bit cluttered (with all the goalie sheets and skaters sheets) so I understand why having more would be a problem.

I have a question about the sheet... in the technical part there´s is a section called GTO.. i can´t find this ingame..

Hey just wanted to say thanks to Bruins who have made this Exel Sheet. Thanks to you i have finally started to care about the training section of EHM.
Before i started to use the sheet i never bodered to care about the training, just downloaded some practice-scheme and let the headcoach do te rest.

that was because i didn´t remebered the players stats anyway.. but thanks to you i knoe can keep track at the attributes and therefor start experimenting with the practice...

Thanks, Knoeppel! I'm glad you like it. I've had some of the same results as you. I can really watch the progress of my players over the course of the season and that makes me really pay attention to training. It's also nice if you're playing multiple seasons because you can open up a copy of the spreadsheet from an older season and see where a player started and then see where he's at now.

Old topic, not sure if anyone still pays any attention to it. Was just wondering if there is anyway to change the green to something different, maybe a bit darker green, using the latest version of Excel

Which green are you talking about? On the comparison page? I think I actually did do it with a darker green originally and it wasn't easy to tell the difference between that and the basic black. That's why I ended up going with the brighter green. You're more than welcome to change your copy. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to do it right now.

I was actually inquiring on how can i change it myself, but I found out its easier to just change the background colour.

For those who need to Alt+Tab to exit the game and enter your players skills in the cheet.... Why dont you just take a screenshot of the player or either take a screenshot of your team in view attributes....
