EHM The Blue Line

I did a search for languages and couldnt find anything on what I was looking for.

In the Information section of Players and Staff there is an area for Fluent and Basic Languages of that person. I was wondering how important those are in terms of them doing thier job?

Such as hiring a coach in the NHL that doesnt speak English.

Also will a coach who stays in a country learn that language over time?

Yes, they will learn the basics of the language within a year or so, and fluently in a coulpe of years.

As for how much it effects their ability to do their job, I dunno, but I've always steered clear of non-English speaking coaches. Quite often they don't even want to take the job for "concerns of different language and lifestye", they say...

I don't know about the language:performance relation, either, but I've always handled it as if it's a huge factor... because, well, it should be a big deal.

Normally I try to skip non-english coaches as well but I couldnt pass up stats like this.

As I tend to play only the North American leagues I always prefer to hire english-talking coaches. I think it's important to keep the culture of the league and not to mix it up too much... However, I do think that it might be a good idea, if you have several foreign players on your team, to have a coach from the same country, or at least the same region - for example Eastern Europe... They might get through to your foreign players in a better way than your other personnel... I would guess this is the same for trainers, but I'm not sure about that.

It must be in the game for a reason, so it seems safe to assume that language barriers can/will cause your those players/staff some sort of negative effect.

Saranis: pretty good coach, no doubt You may give him a very little role while he is not speaking english. Maybe having a couple of russian players who speak english could help, as they could translate the infos. At least, if this is taken into account in the game, which i have no clue about

It seams like i've found the only question to EHM no one knows the answer to.

Thanks for all the responses. I've added him so that he only is working with players who speak one of his languages (Ukranian and Russian) until he learns the basics of english.
