I pretty much make my tactics according to the players and lines I have, and so far it has worked pretty well.
If I have a strong center, I use Crash The Net, otherwise Positional. Then I look at my forwards strengths in that line, to determine if I use either Passing or Skating as offencive style. If they're fast players, I use Skating, if they're good passers, they should use that to their advantage, and I use Passing.
My third line is always defencive, and I match the lines, so that the third line plays against opponent first line. Second and first lines are scoring lines and fourth line is for the young players, who I'm looking to develope further.
Good and average hitters I put on Hard hitting, and bad hitters on easy. Strong players play with Power on the boards, while weaklings are on Finesse.
The best shooter on all lines has Shoot Bias, while others are on Pass bias.
That's pretty much it.

I never touch any downloaded tactics, it kinda defeats the point of playing for me. I tend to do the same tactics whoever I have, and just sign the players that best fit my management style. I tend to be fairly defensive, but not overly aggressive.
I think that tactics may need to change if SI believe the NHL hype about the lack of obstruction/wide open game stuff. As SI have had to take a guess on how much the "new" rules will be implemented it will be interesting to see how that affects the tactics in EHM
