EHM The Blue Line

I'm now in the 2011-2012 season of my current save, and each year, I get 4 of my best scouts to scout the CHL and UHL. Every year, I see the same guys listed as the best ones in the league. While the turnover rate for players in these leagues seems to be quite high, the best players never seem to make it to the "next level". Even NHL guys who get released seem to prefer Europe or the LNAH over these leagues.

Has anyone seen a player move up from the CHL or UHL to the NHL (they can stop at the AHL or ECHL between of course)? I've yet to see a player go from one of these leagues to the NHL on a full-time basis. I've seen a few call-up goalies who spent considerable time in the C and U HL, but that's it.

Have you seen any quality players come out of these leagues?

Do you ever send prospects or farm hands down to these leagues? If so, do you feel it's helped or hurt their development playing at that level?

Always played with my Laffs, they don't have a CHL/UHL lowest they have is ECHL and I'll send guys there if they are:
A)getting no playing time
B)bad rating

Does anyone know how to start a game in the UHL? I know this is probably a noob question, but I tried starting a new game and looking at the leagues you could choose, and I didn't find it in there. Or do you have to start as unemployed and be hired?

When starting a new game:
1. Make sure put a check mark next to UHL and leave it "enhanced".
2. On the next screen, make sure "North America" is in the "Group" box
3. Select UHL in the Leauge drop box
4. Pick your UHL Team to manage.

Note: If you're using the default database, the UHL will be under the alias "All-American"(followed by a 3 or 4, but I forget which one).

So it'll be 'All-American-3' or 'All-American-4'

Well, you see, I already tried that before I posted. I don't have any UHL on the list.
I use NHL Eastside Hockey 2007 with the latest patch.

Quite right. Haven't used the default DB in so long, I forgot about that.

Great, now I have another problem.

I am trying to play the UHL unfaked so I downloaded and extracted the unfaked database TBL:DB. In accordance with the instructions I extracted it on a sub-directory of \data\database. But now I tried starting a new game and I don't see anywhere where I can choose the database. Where does it say that? Or should I just go ahead and erase the original database anyway?

Do you have the latest patch?

The ability to pick a database while starting a new game didn't come until version 3.0.4.

It's strongly advised that you install the latest patch, if you haven't already - some very essential improvements and bug fixes coming with it.

I thought I did but I may not have? How can I check which patch I installed? Is there a way to check?

The intro window says 3.0.4. Assuming I do have the right patch, where do you do that selection? Maybe I just don't see it. Is it the "User Data Folder"?

Sounds like you have the correct patch.

You should have the TBL:DB at ehm/data/database -folder to be able to pick. You most likely have it in the wrong place if you can't pick your database.

All right, but where do you make that choice? Which window?

As soon as you click "New Game", it will pop a little box that says: Please select a database to use to start a new game.

If you have more than one DB installed (they all have to be in separate folders), there should be a drop-box menu where it says Database with all the DBs you have installed.

If you simply over-wrote the default DB files with the TBL:DB (and not put the files in a sub-directory), it would olny show up with "Default". Which in this case would be the TBL:DB.

I figured out the reason... when I extracted the files, they were not located in the directory I created. The zip file created a sub-directory, where the files were extracted. That is why the program couldn't see them.

I grew up watching the CHL through most of my lifetime. I didn't see that many players make it that high in different leagues. Most of them got into the AHL as regulars and that was just about it and nothing more.

Plenty of the CHL guys were good at one point in time where they did get drafted by NHL teams out of college or juniors, but needless to say, if you don't show promise within a few years.

You can consider yourself gone from that team and any further development.

I believe the best player that I ever watched on the ice was probably Chris Minard. He is now in the AHL and playing just as good as he always has, but from what I know, he'll never make it to the NHL. Just based on his size and injury problems and just about the only goaltender I saw do great things was Sebastien Centomo, Scott Reid, and one particular goaltender from the Colorado Eagles team. He won about 30 games in a row, had 12 shutouts or so, and his GAA was easily around 1.21 or better.

Centomo went to the AHL for the Leafs affiliate and saw some playing time in Toronto as well, but just didn't make it in the big time. I think he was called up too soon, but whatever.

Reid spent years in the CHL and I got to watch him just about every night. The team I went for was cut from the league and I continued to monitor Reid throughout his progress. He ended up being a solid goaltender in the CHL and slightly average in the AHL.

As for the guy from Colorado, I know he spent some small time in the AHL and then played for the Avalanche a little. Then now he is back in the CHL or the AHL, not sure at this point and I'm too lazy to take a look.

All in all, the CHL in real life doesn't have that many people who are going to make it big. Most of them are all old or just not good enough in general to make it into the NHL.

The best player that I could draft in the game and have him actually turn into a good quality NHL player or spend all of his years in the AHL, it's Bobby Chaumont from Laredo.

i'd say first that JPoolTX is right, Chaumont has some potential from what i see in 2010 in my game.

Other then that, it is possible to find some decent players down there, whether their better then AHL quality is questionable but i've seen the CPU send down a few guys that would be good in th AHL, and possibly the NHL. The one that comes to mind is Rory Rawlyk (sp?) played his 2009-2010 season in the CHL despite being of MUCH better quality then most of the players there.

The game always has many players who are sent down to the CHL. That is just part of the game since the CHL has many teams who are affiliated with NHL and AHL teams.

Personally it isn't hard to actually sign a rookie out of the juniors and keep him around until he becomes good enough to get taken off your team. That happens to me all the time. The main reason I go for players in the juniors is because I can sign them for cheap, but they have so much potential and they help my team win right then and there.

The only bad thing is that sometimes their time is just cut all of a sudden. They are there one week and gone the next.

We all saw this a lot in the ECHL Challenge. I lost my two top scorers and a coach! The thing is, neither of my lost scorers ended up doing much in the higher leagues. Whether this was due to less ice time or simply not enough talent I don't know.

I think most of it is due to the fact that they can't produce up in higher leagues. Whether it be in the AHL or NHL and that is usually why you see them get cut and you can pick them up again, but only at a higher price as usual.

I am proud of that guy. He was something special in San Angelo and he definitely was always a fan favorite and a class guy on and off the ice.

By... "he's playing".... I mean... he's dressing for every game but averaging ~5 minutes TOI.... a couple games he dressed and didn't step on the ice! I think the coach doesn't like him so much...
