EHM The Blue Line

With an email blessing from Pen66 this morning I got the okay to proceed with a little project for the wonderful 1979-80 mod.

This past weekend I began making player cards for the mod that I was going to use for myself. But after finishing the first team, the Chicago Blackhawks, I though it would be good to share these, and now with Pens okay, here we go!

Building on all the work Pen did, I take the players he created fro each team he modded and make cards for them. So using Chicago I made the 22 player cards. I popped them into a zipped team pack and BOOM, we have a download!

I will also make cards for the Russian Free Agents after NHL teams are done

Now this first pack was simple. Straight pictures with no additional graphics. Out of the 22 players I managed to find 21 pictures of the actual players, 18 of them in the correct Hawks unis. For three they were in different unis and the one player I couldn’t find any graphic of I simply used a different Hawk from the same era and there is the pack. The read me actually lists who is correct and who is in what uni ect ect for those who care!

Now noticing a lot of you prefer the card templates with bells and whistles. I took 20 minutes this am and did a rough template that can also be used for the mod. So below is version 1 examples of the template. Using the O-Pee-Chee cards from 79/80 as a guide I came up with what you see. Theres still a little fine tuning, but you get the idea.





I had to trade off a couple of things in starting the template, otherwise I feel its just too busy, but Ill reiterate, its VERY early in the template part of this project.

I would prefer to make straight pictures as players do get traded, but after doing all the teams I may go back and do them with the template as well. At the very least Ill make the template available when done.

Im on laptop right now, at home PC are the Hawks pics, Ill post one of them tonight to show you how these simpler shots compare

Okay, so I had a spare couple of minutes this morning..

So maybe I will make more of the card versions than I thought I would! lol!

Yes, very cool indeed. I'm really looking forward to use them. I have no idea how 95% of those players look like

The cards look really good! They're simple but look smart. I certainly agree with your point of not making them too "busy" - that's a rule we try to follow when designing graphics for EHM and TBL.

Well, you can simply look in this sub-forum a littler further down the page. But I'd advise you to go to the SI forums. You'll find a thread at the general discussions forum. There's also some discussion about the mod and you'll find the latest version there, too.

Hee...archi: I would like to direct you to the little magnifying glass in the top right corner of the screen. Apparently if you use it you can find things on this site, including how to spell Niittymäki correctly.

Most likely if you would not use the correct search words for spelling of Niittymäki, you would only find out that it's spelled somehow completely wrong...

Chicago Blackhawks packs are one. One with the card and one without.

Card is nice, but once a player gets traded you'll have to use my template (not finished with all the teams yet) to update the card.. couldget BUSY once teams tart dealing

Umm... I know it's just an example but I don't think you should bother with one for Bobby Orr if the mod covers the 79/80 season. Wasn't his last season 78/79? That's what hockeydb says...

Orr is included in the Mod, so thats why hes there.

Hmmm... doesn't sound like he should be in the mod either. Oh well. That doesn't have anything to with this thread I guess.

Im 38 and can remember seeing Orr play as a young kid.. hes my favorite player. But while he defeinately wasnt a player in 79/80 hes in database for mod.. so I made him picture!

I know that he was retired at the starting point of my mod, but I added him anyway. He's under contract with the Hawks, but out with a knee injury until the start of the 1980 playoffs. Besides he's awfully slow and has a permanet knee injury to simulate his knee problems and he has the CA of a #6 defenseman.
I just wanted him to be there, it's my mod, so you have to accept it or delete him manually

Its funny, Bruins72 is correct in the sence he didnt play anymore that season, but I kinda like having him in. Hell I traded for him just to have him on my roster! lol!!

Did the picture pack mod for 79/80 ever see the light of day? I have not been able to find it.

Considering the post before you was almost 12 months ago. I think not. . I'm sure that Sbufkle will be around someone to give us an insight as to what is going on with it.

I think Sbufkle dropped this to work on his WHA mod instead.

Sorry for bumping an old topic, was this card pack ever released id like to d/l it if its avaliable

I think I will quote myself to answer that question, and this reply was just above yours.

But the WHA mod was dropped as well, but this was because of family reasons. I get sad just thinking about those reasons
