EHM The Blue Line

i don't think it is possible but i am curious how many of you would like a feature like if you create a player and chose what team he goes too, for what salary etc.

For example your player had a great NHL season playing 73 games for the new york rangers and getting 76 points and is now a Free Agent. He gets offers from NYR: 2y for 6M, CGY: 3y for 15M, and TOR: 2y for 8M and RSL Omsk: 1y for 1M. Then you get to choose which team he goes too. (perhaps saving, going into editor and choosing)

How many of you would like something like this added, perhaps to a editor if possible? ...or do you think it's a waste of time?

I've always liked these kinds of ideas.

But not in this case. The intent of EHM is to be a management sim - sticking to the role of General Manager. A 'superstar mode' would basically have to be a separate module, thus creating a split in the EHM team's focus. And they're small enough of a team as it is, so any splits in focus wouldn't be good.

Of course, this is all hypothetical anyway. There's no longer any EHM team to speak of.

well i guess well just keep have to keep our fingers crossed that NHL 09 to have superstar mode.

i wonder how many people still play this game....i think this may be the last year im going to play this game...on a regular basis. When will another company make a game like this ?

If you mean a game like EHM, then my guess would be never.

Text-based management sims are a rare and daring breed of game due to their anti-climatic and boring nature. It's very difficult to tell a casual, or even hardcore, gamer that it'll be fun clicking on links and reading text. And it's even harder when hockey isn't a popular sport to begin with.

And I think these points are proven by the short existence of the retail version of EHM.

That's why you play online! Excellent replayability.

That is if you can tolerate the other people and the differences in the way they play/approach the game.

I know I can't... far too many cheaters, swindlers, weasels, and self-acclaimed know-it-alls. That's why I avoid online play at all costs, unless I know the people playing.

I've never played on-line, but I guess I'd enjoy the experience. I still enjoy playing EHM a lot, though, so let' say I don't "need" it

Tell that to all the people playing Football Manager. Hockey just isn't anywhere close to being as popular as soccer is worldwide, and IMO there are 3 categories of hockey fans. There are those that enjoy the fast-paced action aspect of the game; there are those that are a bit older and don't use computers too much; and then there is the smallest group of all (us) -- we are the ones that enjoy all aspects of the sport, and we enjoy spending countless hours in front of a monitor clicking away.

true soccer fans are hardcore... I have heard that there is actually a term "FM Widows" used in Britain for those wives whose husbands spend far too much time playing FM rather than spending time with their families.

FM is popular, yes.

But Football Manager is one game, and doesn't change the fact that there are very few decent management sims on the market(making them a rare genre). And not even a fraction of those are known by most gamers. In fact, FM is the only game of it's kind that I know of that has any kind of worldwide fan-base. The rest, like EHM, OOTP, FOF, are all supported simply by small cult followings(making them daring for a company to put money into making).

You are correct of course. I also don't know how much marketing was actually done for EHM. Sega should have enough resources to put out a decent campaign for EHM - judging from what I have seen, I would think that the strongest markets would be Canada and the Scandinavian countries. I don't know the right way to do things, but if enough ads were in PC and video game magazines; maybe make it available on Amazon and Newegg (or at least sell the licence keys there and have people still obtain it online) --- even then, I'm not sure that the cost of the marketing would equal the revenue of the product. But if you use this to build a fanbase - also make sure people are aware of all the available forums... then hype up the new releases on those forums, and after a few years, you will begin to see some profit for your efforts.

just my 2 cents I suppose... I can't pretend to know how to do these things better than a big corporation like Sega/SI.

This is exactly what i was talking about. That would of been sick for EHM....oh well maybe another company will decide to make a new hockey managing sim
